I recently played around with my buddies keys. Was very shocked at how good it sounded for the price. I don't remember it being too noisey. The filter was really cool. Different sound than my ms20. I remember being very impressed with the bass sounds I could create with it. I have room in my setup for one volca, and I've been leaning towards this one

Will let you know. The fact that you can get a analog three note paraphonic for a hundred dollars is just ridiculous. A few years ago, that notion would just be ludicrous.

Can't wait to see what it sounds like. From what I've heard from demos, I really like the sound.

These new devices only have MIDI in. It really limits the MIDI chains you can have. The have to be at the end of the chain and you will need multiple outs to control these. Where are the MIDI outs and throughs these days?

the monotribe is notoriously easy to mod for midi, are the volca boxes the same? Havent really looked into it myself.

Nothing new has anything but MIDI in...its very frustrating...that is why I have multiple thru boxes and a midi patchbay...

Cheap and reliable. My biggest concern was that each device you daisy chain adds latency and slop to your signal. Trying to sync 4 external sequencers together daisy chained the last box is significantly off from the first box. Now I run my master clock and transport signal to this box and distribute from there. It solved my sync problems

Do those units require power? What happens if you split a midi cable into two, like manually?

KP3+ arrived early today. That was hells of fast. In pretty good condition. Pretty substantial little unit. Flatter than I thought. Strep throat has me knocked the f'out though, didn't even plug it in. Am about to rtfm.

Wtf am I doing with all this gear without a mixer? So dumb.

So far, so good. I'm liking it. I was able to get it going pretty intuitively. I just pulled out the manual for the deeper functions. I started with the internal speaker, and then plugged it into some Philips laptop speakers. I can hear that the kicks and toms can have some bass weight. Can't wait to hear this on bigger speakers. It's got potential for being such a little analog device.

Yes, patched this thing into my DJ mixer, which is a Rane TTM-56, going through a Kenwood amp to some Klipsch KG-4 speakers. I know these speakers very well, and they can kick out some bass. Volca Beats has some bass weight, will need to be eq'd and compressed probably.

I believe these are powerless. Have not tested yet, but I think it will work.

By the way, you know some of the guys from Opcode went on to form Cycling'76 to help develop MAX/MSP, from what I recall. The MAX part was already there.

Opcode Vision was my first sequencing program. Used it for years on an old Mac. Was pretty awesome actually.

Yeah, oldshoool. I've got an old mark of the unicorn midisport with a serial interface that I've been holding onto all these years, but I think you have me beat for antiquity.

If there is one thing that I have learned, you can do a lot with old technologies. I have built whole theories around this concept.

Just had a little living room session with ipad and kp3+ and wife on mic. Pretty nice stuff. Wish you could only affect/effect one sample bank at a time, keep the others dry. Maybe you can...?

Sadly, the opcode era was the last time computers were able to output rock solid midi sync. It's all been downhill from there

I've relocated to my mountain fortress. It is below the mountain in my avatar. It is much more affordable here, and I don't have to follow world news anymore as I'm now secure in the short, medium and long term. I'm still not setup, so have terribly blue, musical blue balls. It hurts to walk.
