Re: Fat pride thread
and it's not like i'm trying to get people on here to lose weight, i don't know what a tenth of you even look like.. i just think it is a problem worth talking about, sort of like racism, or gay bashing, if someone kept talking about that, you wouldn't be responding this way, would you?

Re: Fat pride thread
How is it in anyway similar?
You are the one that suggested mocking people is a means to actually get them to lose weight, I disagree, some consideration suggests that this is false given that fat people get mocked and do not lose weight, it also ignores the variety of reasons people overeat and if it was as easy as you suggested to lose weight there wouldn't be companies making millions from diet programs. Now I don't care if you want to seem like a tough guy on the internet, calling other human beings disgusting or barely human because of the way they look says more about your humanity than it does anyone elses.

Re: Fat pride thread
on the fence about this
on one hand i absolutely loathe fat acceptance (and other snowflakey validation-seeking "movements")
but the health/insurance industry and the state telling people what to shove in their bodies is just as bad. just another means of controlling the workforce

Re: Fat pride thread
iirc ive not mocked anyone directly... keep that in mind
it's bit corporations to blame more than anyone else, but i do wish fatties would at least try and lose weight and exercise instead of trying to get empathy, do you think plane seats should be made bigger to cater for them? because of their greed? Costing you more to fly around the world...
some of these blobs seem almost proud, see the OP. if they were shunned, it would make a difference, same with smokers, if people looked down on them and moved away when they lit up a cig, the chances of them quitting are probably higher, why not apply this to obesity? or is that inhumane of me?
re: companies making millions, not really relevant, it's as simple as calories in, calories out (in 90%+ of cases), that's just suckers being conned.
im such an internet tough guy!

Re: Fat pride thread
defo feel you on the smoking parallel
used to see this shit when i was going to bbq's w/ my ex and her family. noone could smoke around the fucking children cause it's a bad influence and it's unhealthy (even tho it's been proven that second hand smoking is harmless) and all that, yet noone had any problem gorging on stupid amounts of food and drinks even tho one of the kids was already overweight

Re: Fat pride thread
yeah that's kinda internet tough guy bullshit to be honest.well maybe they shouldn't be so fat that they hardly look like humans anymore, no? or is that OK in your eyes? as long as they are happy! im so glad I'm not paying tax to support these fat disgusting monsters
You have no idea of the range of issues that may motivate people to over eat, and by failing to acknowledge them you are left in a position where you are generalising to the point of absurdity, calling people disgusting because of how they look while not accounting for why is bullshit.

Re: Fat pride thread
Doesn't mean it's proven though. Just that it's impossible to correlate. Science will still point towards it being harmfull.

Okay so maybe the increased cancer rate is only borderline butultraspatial wrote: http://jnci.oxfordjournals.org/content/ ... 65.extract
Is certainly enough reason for a parent to not want you smoking round their kids and should be enough for you to not want to smoke around their kids.“Passive smoking has many downstream health effects—asthma, upper respiratory infections, other pulmonary diseases, cardiovascular disease—but only borderline increased risk of lung cancer,”
Disgusting is not a synonym for ugly.
Re: Fat pride thread
Yes. Because you are still using the principle of objectification, that in this case relates more directly to body image issues and self, than in general. The fact that these people have almost rid themselves of that superficial outer 'self' by neglecting an objectively acceptable representation of their 'being' means that they cant take stuff like that in at face level, so it becomes mocking instead.if people looked down on them and moved away when they lit up a cig, the chances of them quitting are probably higher, why not apply this to obesity? or is that inhumane of me?

Re: Fat pride thread
"Disgusting is not a synonym for ugly."
then use it as an antonym for attractive. same thing
and unless somehow you get exposed to smoke for 30 something years you'll probably be fine
swear some of you lot overly complicate things just to make a point

Re: Fat pride thread
What do you think I am over complicating?
Here's the thing you're the one that said that it has been proven that passive smoking is harmless and when asked for a cite gave one that said something very different, it's then about other people over complicating things.
In any case I choose to consider fat disgusting monster not as an antonym for attractive because there are numerous other ways that one can be unattractive.

what is this post?scspkr99 wrote:Do you know any people that are overweight but not obese? It seems not from this like firstly if every overweight person pride themselves on shovelling garbage into their faces there would not be the diet industry there is nor would there be moderately overweight people who would be much larger than they are if that's what they were doing.sixs wrote: pretty much every overweight person i know shovels garbage in their face all day and prides themselves of that fact.
but i'm fat-indifferent so i say nowt and let em get on with it
taters on that as we jack it
Re: Fat pride thread
it was a question directed at you asking whether you knew any people that are overweight but not obese or anyone that is overweight and trying to lose it as it seems that either would demonstrate to you just how clearly bullshit the post I was responding to was.

yeah many ways one person can be unattractive. like physically unattractive

Re: Fat pride thread
There's still poisonous residue left over from smoke and it would be naiive to assume there's not some complex accumilated negative effect like there usually is. The point is that there's quite a bit of sketchy money involved in the study of the effects .ultraspatial wrote: statistically improbable = harmless in lay man's terms
Also and I'm joking now, but how many cigarets in the immediate vacinity of a persons face did the studies take into account? I reckon there's a few club situations where you effectively do the 'same' as directly inhaling a filtered cig by just being there
