Fault: Im sorry man, I actually really just do not like this vibe. Def a first for me from you. I dig the exploration though, but the vibes on this bootleg dun work for me. Just one man's word tho.

Danny: Tunes got a certain nice swing to it, but it needs way more separation of sound. I think the midrange ting could be a little less gritty and the drums and little more pronounced. It sounds very "loop"-ish at the moment. I dig the bell-dem too.

Wolfrem guy: I want to preface this with, I fucking love this so far but....
-The intro just does not work for me, its way too stark. I hear some really low bubbling sounds and teasing of the synth melody in there, those could be brought out more. And i do really like the harsh unsettling quality of the vocal sample, i think there just needs to be a little more "story telling" in there.
-Kind of the same qualm with the breakdown, you gotta guide us into the break instead of just dropping us there
Honestly though, if you work on this more, I will rinse this tune on radio and at gigs. I really enjoy it, just needs that little extra polish. Please finish this one up.

your 2nd tune sounds cool, but im far too engrossed in the vibes of the 1st to properly give my thoughts on the 2nd hah

thanks for the feedback man totally agree but i have to point out that those are the vocals i can work with
a friend of my brother gave them to him and i think its dif takes on one sentence hence the repetitive nature
but yeah atm its at that lego stage where i just tried to build some structure and stretch it out bit more
def wanna finish but i dunno how i could add something to the vocals without going this filter pitching etc route which might be pointless here

Yeah it really is a straight up loop I worked on for a bit. The goal is to add my own vocals/more parts etc down the line, like a dreamy synth pop vibe but with more edge or something.

By separation do you essentially mean EQing things into their own area more and maybe ducking mids to the snare?

THE MOTHERFluUppING LEGO STAGE

yes ! :h:

I think it's best to remain in that stage tbh. It should still be building blocks when put together. Something clicked in my head there^ but this isn't the buddhist in daw thread yet, is it ?

I've never considered how a daw is just the new girl friend and lego was the mum and the first girlfriend :6: :6: :6: lol

hm maybe you could pitch them together tiny bitmore?
def a risky tune but i love this mixing stuff that shouldnt be mixed attitude

@dannyfloyd
one of your older wips?
dig the melody and sound in the beginning but i think i have to agree bring the drums upfront take some heavy notches in the main bass bring it down tiny bit add little bit more sub and you are settled
def raise the hi hats though
all there just in the mix now

@cyclopsy
nice atmosphere right from the start good placement in the room too
def dirty but i think the mix is on the edge of still working
subby bassdrum is pushing all the way isnt it
hm hard to suggest anything its very minimalistic but it works
hm,hm personally maybe one real melody element ? but again does work how it works

D-FAULT:

Agree that it's maybe not the strongest track I've heard from you so far, but I want to like this because the basis is sick. I feel like if you keep this vibe, maybe ditch the piano panned to the right, and just go balls-out heavy with the main riff. The "DA-DA-DA..... DA-DA-DA" that everything seems to take part in. Like I'd throw a distorted kick or something on that part, think like a 99 problems Jay Z beat or some shit. I don't know if you like brickwalled loud-ass mixes, but I legitimately feel like this is one of the rare circumstances where that type of full frequency-filled sound would be the way to go here.

Cyclop: Every time I press play on your track my browser freaks out and everything turns white until I close the page. I'll have to give it another shot once the missing contributions are up this week.

@BUDD

I bet you wouldn't expect me to dig the talking parts, but I'm actually really feeling them; especially in the intro. I don't have any mixdown critique for it, but I do have some as far as the songwriting goes. What would elevate this track from an awesome kind of IDM ish vibe to another classic in the vein of U, Nickk, Gutsherr etc, would be to find some nice vocals to put in after the intro. The only part that took me out of the vibe was around 2:05 when everything just goes silent and the narration returns. I think some sort of "release" would be beneficial, like some gentle white noise winding down or something instead of the drastic cut to silence.

2nd track:

Sometimes I forget you're from a different country, then you make something like this, haha. It's got a very "this is not American or English" vibe to it, some weird 80's/early 90's foreign dance music stuff. It's not exactly the tone of music I listen to, but I would at least add it onto an ipod shuffle or something for the gym/car. Once again, tough to point out any mixdown flaws; everything sounds clear and present to me.

thanks for the honest feedback guys (as a sidenote, getting seriously into this sort of 60/70's early heavy metal as possible sampling material for my lazy hip hop tunas, so probably expect more of this in the coming weeks, sorry cyclopian :P)

@danny flayed: i agree with cyclopede, it sounds a bit loop-ish, i would suggest making the beat a bit more varied. also i feel like the mixdown could be reworked a bit, it sounds especially muddy when the midrange comes in. however, i would say the midrange synth could actually be grittier, like maybe i'd suggest trying to layer it with snippets of distorted electric guitars or something (probably i'm saying that because of my current intake of cheesy 70's metal tho).

@circladian: as usual, serious work on the sound design, you really nailed that gritty yet "clean" and not harsh on the ears sound, something i wish i could pull out tbh... aside from that, maybe a bit too minimal for my taste though, also i feel there could be more of a sense of progression (but its probably due to me not being in the mood for this kind of stuff atm, i'm sure this could get me going on a big sound system). as bud says, it sorts of work as is, we're both just saying you should add a melody because that would be the european thing to do.

@bud:
Minter: is that blanc or just you? anyway liking it a lot, especially the synth coming in at 0.46. not sure about the offbeat "hihats" tho, i'm not sure they fit in the context of that track. i would see something more metallic, something like the classic 909 open hihat? the "second drop" with the reece sounds a bit more muddy to me, but could be just my headphones. anyway, good shit, finish it (and maybe send me the stems)

midnight hour: idk if its because i know the vocal samples from somewhere or if you already posted an earlier version of this, but it sounds familiar? mixdown sounds really muddy to me, like way more than the other track. could just be the limiter on the master tho? idk
as far as cheesy italo-like stuff goes, i quite like it, but if you only finish one of the two, finish Minter :P
