Can't you just route the kick to a bus that's muted(/has no ouput) for example and then use the bus as sidechain feed? Don't know what DAW you're using

shifted a few ton of garden waste and wood today. Most my muscles ache but it feels good to have worked. It was recycling so that makes me feel even better
