Do you guys in the UK have as much of a hard time finding zip drives as vcr's? I'm starting to build my business model.

Re: Gear lust
Yes, zip disks and drives. I used a SCSI one on my S5000. Eventually I needed to get all of those samples to my pc so I bought a USB zip drive for 10 bucks at the thrift store. I didn't know if it would work but it worked.

Actually, I might be able to get you one. I'd have to double check with my dad, but I think he has some lying around that he probably doesn't need...I'll ask next time I'm over to visit.nowaysj wrote:wtf!

I forgot to reply to this several pages back, but this video got me lustin' after a dub siren. I know its a bit frivolous, and I don't even dj anymore but I just want one. I would probably be better off spending that $100 on a SQ1 or another Volca.RADD wrote:Missed out on a Dynacord Echocord mini for €120,-, didnt really trust it being so cheap and I hear Dynacords break easily, anyone here got some experience with it?
seems lovely to play with

Re: Gear lust
my homies over at Dubs Alive build some absolutely killer sirens
http://www.dubsalive.com/roots-culture/
these things sound incredible, heard them shatter many a sound system
If you get the timing right on the preoder you can have them do custom faceplates for cheap too!

Re: Gear lust
I may want one of these. Your homies don't even have a link on how, where or how much to buy one. The DS-1 sounds awsome but it looks like that was a very limited edition. I would like to hear the lil dubber.

They are the kinda guys that want ya to get in contact with them for these kind of things (I know its a very strange thing in our internet age hehe)

I just pre-ordered the Roland jd-xi. Anyone else getting it?
It looks the best all-in-one synth pretty much ever made.

I compare it to like the microkorg etc. In that pricerange
I think you're getting a lot for your 500$ or whatever.
Re: Gear lust
Yeah it's quite a good price. Its got keys though, definitely don't have room
for keys.
for keys.

Re: Gear lust
What are you getting though? Static Pcm drums. Two instances of a Glorfied Rompler, with limited patches. And a single analog osc, with extremely limited controls, and nothing really to spice it up. And the sequencer, which is pretty cool, but from what I can tell you can't sequence sequences.Mehlovich wrote:nowaysj wrote:Are you fucking with me?Mehlovich wrote:I just pre-ordered the Roland jd-xi. Was really psyched when it was announced, like WHOA, Roland is back into Analog. But, imo, the analog is gratuitous, cynical, two adjectives that have been applied to Roland's product development/marketing strategy regarding their legacy analog products for a couple of decades now.
This is just me, but I'd rather do a Bass Station 2, used, for $350, or a micro/minibrute which are going to provide actual 1:1 control over the analog engine (something that is very important to me), and a whole bunch of little tricks and quirks to extend the range of the limited monosynth/osc.
Directly comparing the jd-xi against the microkorg on specs, yes, the jd-xi does look quite a bit more powerful. BUT, look at Roland's new pitchman Dorian Concept, look at his playing of the jd-xi and the microkorg, for my money, the microkorg is still much funkier in his hands. The microkorg has IT, which is not revealed in specs. Could just be DC's extreme familiarity with the microkorg.
With all that said, I could totally get down on a jd-xi, the value through price/performance is not there for me.
Just me though.
Re: Gear lust
I would tend to agree about the JD XI...to me it kinda seems like a 500 dollar sketch book. I could see it being cool to sketch out ideas on, but I'm certainly I'd end up only using the MIDI most of the time. I'd sooner spend that money on the new Electribe if I wanted an all in one, even with its issues. I'd way sooner take the MicroKorg...and functionally they aren't even really comparable.
Technically you are "getting a lot" but not anything that is worth a damn. Just my opinion.
