Trevor Noah
Does anyone here actually give a fuck?
Seems like classic internet outrage to me. He hasn't been the longest Daily Show corespondent but from what I've seen he looks like he'd make a solid replacement for the Jon Stewart. If anything he's too much of a safe choice imo, he seems so much like another sorta boring John Oliver type. What they really need is another Colbert...

Re: Trevor Noah
i dont actually care but i think hes a poor choice. it's not really feasible to replace him anyways, the daily show is jon stewart in the same way that something like top gear is those 3 cunce
john oliver does some corny nonsense like when he thinks he needs to sing and dance, but in general he's a solid host. the format of the show is better too, the way he spends a lot of time on one subject in particular in every episode gives subjects the depth they need. and all with no commercials or censors
john oliver's show has been blowing stewart out of the water tbh. on the daily show, only the first block before commercials is consistently worth watching (where stewart covers the news), the correspondent pieces are very hit or miss, and so are the interviews (90% chance i dont care about the guest's movie/book/music)DrGatineau wrote:If anything he's too much of a safe choice imo, he seems so much like another sorta boring John Oliver type.

Oliver made the right call on that Pirates of the Pancreas thing.

I never watched the daily show, but I thought it was pretty funny how the guardian was chastising this Trevor guy for posting 4 offensive tweets out of the thousands he already posted. Plus he wrote them like 3 years ago. lol

Re: Trevor Noah
for me, oliver is essentially a carbon copy of jon stewart but younger and with bad teeth. there's very little difference in style. stewart does more self-deprecating jewish jokes; oliver does more british jokes.
trevor noah seems like he'll just be another one with the same old style, but he'll make more africa-related jokes... they need someone to change the game imo, the way colbert did - my point is that noah isn't a "radical" replacement, if anything he's too safe imo.
i do like the depth thing which oliver does well no doubt, but i still don't like the show as much as stewart's, and that's despite the fact he probably has more funding and freedom to make explicit jokes, being on HBO. ofc, you may as well skip stewart's interviews and the skits are hit or miss mostly depending on the correspondent (I <3 Jessica Williams), but i find myself straight up not making it thru an episode of john oliver about half the time. he's clearly really good at delivering the news in a thorough and clever way, but he's just not that funny imo. not that stewart is even that funny either but colbert was funnier than all three of these dudes combined.

Re: Trevor Noah
they had two choices imo
pay dave chappelle a presidential fee and save america
or give it to samantha bee because she's the funniest of the rest of the lot and a womans perspective could be a new angle to try to make it 'current' again ..
or someone risky but different like a charlie sheen or ghost face killah

Re: Trevor Noah
I checked up on him after hearing the news that he would be the new host, watched a solo show of his and a sort of documentary thing. He's not the funniest guy I've ever seen, but he seems like he would fit well as the host of The Daily Show. He seems curious about all the fucked up things in the world, is pretty funny off the cuff and has a sort of self/everyone-deprecating sort of humor. I think and hope he'll be able to take what is a good show (used to be great) and make it his own.
If he tanks, it's not really the end of the world tho, definitely agree that TDS has gone downhill over the years.

Re: Trevor Noah
I think it's very very weird that they didnt go for a more controversial guy as that seems to be the most important bit.
Turning it into a mini ½ daily show could be detrimental to all the 'work' the show has done. Think of how central the show was during the bush days.

Assuming you're on about the South African comedian, I thought he was pretty good from the shows I've seen
