Re: Jazzy Dubstep (Chord Marauders, Geode, Jafu et al)
if this helps at all, I use the sampler/simpler in ableton a lot....can be very efficient and creative at the same time with these tools. I tend to loop snippets of samples or bounced synthesizer sounds I have made. a lot of layering with jazz samples from vinyl and textured sounds (like white noise, vinyl crackle etc) to get some interesting results when filtered, compressed, distorted together. layer, bounce, mess with it in a preferred sampler and repeat until your happy.
one other thing I will say, these sort of sounds are easy and sound simple...drums must sound interesting enough on there own before you add any oddly placed detuned stabby synth or what ever.

Would greatly appreciate a video walktrought a project you did in ableton. But then it's probably too much to ask

This this this. Good drums take the track to a whole different level.travis_baker wrote:drums must sound interesting enough on there own before you add any oddly placed detuned stabby synth or what ever

Yeah lots of sampling-pitching/time stretching/effecting etc-implemented. Gerwin/Geode/B9 are dons.
