Moth/Code:Pandorum Bass in Massive?
I'm looking to kind of create a deathstep styled heavy bass, the distorted kind that Moth and Code:Pandorum use. Anybody know which kinds of effects and oscillators in massive would get me on the right track?

Like 99% of the time, you can probably get these sounds out of basic waveforms like saws & squares. Processing and enveloping is the rest. Especially stuff like amp & guitar pedal simulators can work pretty well.SkairkroNY wrote:I'm looking to kind of create a deathstep styled heavy bass, the distorted kind that Moth and Code:Pandorum use. Just might try that. Earlier I've been getting close to the Bratkilla sound with distortion and a vocoder._Agu_ wrote:Like 99% of the time, you can probably get these sounds out of basic waveforms like saws & squares. I'll see if the Sine Shapers in Massive can get me somewhere.
I am usually horribly bad at experimentation.

its jst a normal sounding wobble bass with fuck tonnes of distorton possibly loads of diff types. put the distortion after the filter to get the more fucked up sounds.
it does sound really bad t my ears all this sound though

So I'm getting pretty close to it, actually. Digigrain is a good oscillator if you find the sweetspot on the positon.
Use a scream filter and a sine shaper for distortion, and a Magyr oscillator for some nice midrange tone to give each shot more impact and pronunciation.
Ableton's Corpus gives some good distortion. A really good way to give it this filth is to ever-so-slightly use the LFO to modulate the oscillator pitch, by around .07. But I gotta work more. As of now it sounds too much like white noise, not nearly enough tone for it to really sound like something that could be usable. But I'm getting close. Just thought I'd update progress.
