This is how those shitty ½nazi parties operate. They go in spurting all kinds of nice cheapish social reforms (like in Denmark it's the elderly that they appeal too).
It's how it's done.
You go for a specific bit that works populistically in a context where people are already upset about something else and then you move.

It's been happening all over Europe the last ten years at least.
With LePen and similar parties in most countries. This is your guys version.

who actually lets the media decide their stance on anything? of course media is biased, and anyone with half a brain keeps that in mind and can separate the reality from ideology. if you're watching/reading "proper" news and not CNN/NBC/etc or some punditry bullshit, then there isnt much analysis (the bit where the bias comes into play) in the first place, and any bias really comes solely from what is chosen to be covered / not covered

If people looked at the manifesto's side by side without any previous bias i think a lot of people from across the political spectrum would choose ukips.

Economically speaking, the mainstream media (even the guardian which is seen as the most leftist of the mainstream media) are very right wing. The British media are the least condemning of austerity anywhere in the world. Even Europe are starting to change their views.. Ever so slightly.

I don't get how that differs from someone who lives in the uk though.. Most people gain their opinions from the media whether they live in the country or not. Benefit street is a perfect example, that show was very instrumental in the hate for foreigners and people on benefits as being 'leeches' of society. They even had a fucking channel 4 """""debate"""""" program after it! Same goes for the hate against Muslims. Not saying these issues aren't real issues, I'm just agreeing the media have a huge influence on public (and foreign) opinion.. But to pretend it's all leftist is a little silly. Especially when the daily mail website is the most viewed uk media website in the world.

UKIP have the media to thank for their popularity imo. Immigration is one of the most talked about topics in the media in recent times. Whether it's a real issue or not doesn't matter.. It becomes an important issue because of the media. UKIP aren't the first to benefit from it, the rise of the BNP was based on the same media shit storm a few years back.

I do think you have a point in reading what they put up and going through that, without as much prejudice. No doubt. But there's a way politics work and there's ways to notice what is in fact populism.

That article just sounds like a cynical load of anecdotal rubbish. I bet my hat that the Greens have actually done some research to make the best proposal possible and didn't just pull it out of their arse.

Of course, parties like the Conservatives do make perfectly realistic propositions that are based on screwing as many people as possible, and so end up being realistic for being unimplementable. For example, their proposal to take welfare off people who 'refuse treatment for a treatable condition' sounds reasonable if you know nothing about treating the actual condition or as a member of a medical profession you can't just force things on people who don't consent. It's unfair imo to say that all Texans are *this* but it's not unfair to think that the sum of two opinions can't make up a 'democracy'. That cold war logic is not on.
We're supposed to meet up where your influence in international politics is considered the opinion of your citizens (democratic), but it isn't.
It's essentially two market ideals that independantly from politics and in part because of the size of your own market, has some of the biggest input on trade on the globe. These ideals are now mirrored by industries all over the globe in a response to either agree with their own government or appeal to the US and seperate from their government because the US is number one in most exports, at the same time. And arguably a better partner for investment.
You have essentially bought out what is politics globally, in that there's always a trade option or the threat of a looming embargo. The only time this role was really questioned was during the backlash of the vietnam war. Not even when moving in on a made up basis in the second bit in Iraq.
