They wanna waste more of their money before they start shooting it so that their eventual downfall doesn't look as bad.

you're going to be fucking with a HIGHLY addictive substance that could derail your life. what, do people think they won't be turking for more if you smoke it instead of injecting? lol
tbh heroin itself in terms of addictiveness isn't much different from any other opiates which are commonly prescribed (although obviously if youre hitting the needle then the only comparable thing is getting IV painkillers at the hospital). the main difference is just that because it's illicitly produced, it's cheaper and easier to form a habit

Yeah but there're pretty massive circumstantial, if not psychological, differences between people who buy heroin and people who collect prescribed opioid medicines. The only time those differences vanish is when the person collecting the prescription is already a heroin addict.

my point doesn't even go as deep as that; i'm just remarked at the amount of people who said they would try heroin, fully knowing what that shit can do to you. the negative effects are well documented etc etc and there have been plenty of users who tried it, did it again for a laugh, turned it into a casual thing then heroin took over their life. why someone would even want to play around with it is beyond me.

it's not hip or edgey to try dangerous drugs (and i don't use that as a blanket term for ALL drugs...) and people should stick with what they truly know: heroin isn't to fuck with. don't be stupid...

in fact think about what ex/recovering heroin addicts would say about the people who said they'd try it. they would think "wow what a bunch of retards"

No, I don't consume licit or illicit drugs, unless absolutely necessary. Hell, I even stay away from caffeine.

if you were a recovering addict and your life had been totally and utterly destroyed by it, would you not think the people who said "yeah i'd try it" are idiots?

gonna play the devils advocate and basically defend heroin use lol (not really), but of course people who became addicts will say "they're idiots". but their experience, frankly, isn't a good representation of what happens to most people.

from a 2008 study
Image

the chart is showing the percentage of subjects who had used a drug and then went on to develop symptoms of dependency and addiction within a year. i think the number you had in your head was probably a lot higher, but for heroin, it's "only" 13%.

and my prediction is that the rate for prescription painkillers would be similar, probably a bit lower (since people eventually just switch to heroin cause its cheaper). lots of people do develop a habit after being prescribed them, but the vast majority of people go on without doing so. so if you've ever had painkillers and managed not to become an addict, it's really unlikely heroin will affect you any differently, unless of course the only reason you didnt become a junkie was because prescription pills were too cost prohibitive compared to heroin

If everyone didn't get addicted to jumping of a bridge, would you do it too?

i don't think you understand the difference between temptation/curiosity and idiocy. you also need to consider the way mental health correlates with drug use. would you call someone with depression (just one example) who wants to escape reality an "idiot"?

also yeah, most people who try it don't get addicted.

So heroin destroys an eighth of your life.
