yes, finally a topic that isn't all about "big", "brapple" and "LARGE"!
for all the people calling this a pointless thread i have one question...
why are you even spending time and posting in this thread then?
that's what i would call very very pointless...
interesting to see what people don't feel, i like positivity and all that, but some honest views on tunes is quite refreshing.
i like dubstep, it's really been a refreshing development, but i'm not even going to start a list of tunes i don't really feel, because it's looong!

This threads as valid as anything else. Why shouldnt peeps express their opinion? Sometimes it seems everybodys afraid of knocking anything or anyone because their revered like gods. Theres some serious over rated tunes and producers out there.
I totally agree about the skull disco stuff - where's the tunes? shackleton couldn't program beats if mans life depended on it. And yes some Coki tunes get repetetive. everyone should have their say

excellent first post. I didn't think Shackleton mixed all that well live. I still think he makes some pretty insane tunes, but I tend to layer them on a 3rd deck. it's all about how you use them.sensidub wrote:yes mate!bashment dan wrote:..give me the name of a shackleton tune which wud tear up a club and ill renounce my comment or wotever the word is

me personally, I don't understand why everyone thinks this Kode 9 Burial preview mix was so class. Most dreadfully boring shit I've heard in a long time. I hope that's not what the album actually sounds like, because I heard nothing coherant there. Brilliant soundscape, but I buy dance music to dance to it. Maybe next time I am sleeping.

The Big Problem with this post is that....
The Big Problem with this post is that Senor Weasel want to know the tunes you don't like. Who cares...!
What people like is subjective, obviously. What is missing from this forum is an honest critique of the music.....as in "here is what I do not like, and why".
Part of being able to succesfully critique the music is knowing where the artist is coming from. Whether or not you can relate to the expression does not define its value as a peice of music. However, with everybody and their brother now able to produce music on computers there are plenty of examples of copycat ideas, cliched phrases, and undeveloped ideas.
At its worst (and only speaking for myself) , Dubstep is this repetitively languid, doleful expression of solipsism that drenches ashen brown basslines in minor keys, tars it with a mournful wobbly drone as it cheerlessly drags its toes like a self loathing, pent-up pachyderm pelted with peanuts by screaming children at some third world zoo!
At is best, and only speaking for myself it chugs along with verve creating anticipation, suspension of disbelief, tension and fulfillment. And it does so with through the dynamics of texture, melody, layered rhythms and sound treatments, space vs accent...oh, and a sense of real composition!
Artists that are amongst the best examples of good (to me):
Jellybass http://jellybass.co.uk/
PhoneCall http://virb.com/phonecall
Marlow http://www.myspace.com/marlowdubstep
