im a big fan of bukem. he's made a packet and he's made great music, and had belief in his own sound, whilst everyone else jumped on the bandwagon.

bukem way way back in 94 played awesome sets - really and truly.

I know Conrad really well as he is from my home town (and round my yard at the moment).

My housemate makes tunes with him. I got a lot of respect for what they do but they screwed a few people over in the past. Reckon Booksworth and the Good Looking empire is a bit tarnished...

saw bukem recently with conrad here in new york. his set is as tight as ever and he delivers. as far as his reputation in the dnb world, well that's a whole other thing altogether. drama central.

Yeh - way too much politics involved in dnb.

Con is a wicked MC. Proper concious lyricist. Some off his Hip Hop stuffa is ruff.

bukem was way ahead of his time.

early GLR releases - tayla, invisible man, jmj & ritchie (as parallel world), peshay, all classics.

he got a bit stuck in a rut later on, but he had the balls to be different, playing dreamy, atmospheric stuff at all the big raves back in 93, 94 - respect...

How can the man who practically introduced the amen break to jungle be called soft????

I don't blame him for inspiring a million horrible smooth jazz jungle imitators.

Bukem's the dj shadow of dnb for me, always taking it 1 step deeper than the rest of 'em.
Don' get me wrong, i've always preferred the dark side of dnb, but this man's talent just can't be ignored.
n conrad is my fav dnb mc...western...what a choon.

i do thing the GLR camp have released waaay too much compilations tho (producer series, logical progression, vocalist, looking back,...)

funny thing is that this topic started off as a toastyboy thread

yes he did, actually, alongside a few other producers.

check 'a couple of beats', the flip side to demon's theme - march 1993

bizzy b, doc scott, some 3rd party stuff - a few other people were also using it round about the same time. An old cloud 9 tune from 92 has got a (v slow) amen in it...

it says in his wikipedia entry that he was one of the 1st to use the amen so it must be true...haha. seriously though he's hardly a name you associate with old skool amen carnage is he? plus loads of the stuff he's got behind is wishy washy soulless nu-jazz bollocks.
