As far as I am aware - If there is data on a disc and you for some reason lose the data etc... It will always be recoverable.
It just a case of knowing someone who really knows their shit about this type of thing.
Im pretty sure that the only way you can truly lose the data is if the magnetic strip is altered in some way. This is quite difficult to do if its just sitting in your pc in your bedroom etc...

Please note that I am not 100% sure about this but it has come from a knowledgeable source. Feel free to correct me.

In the past I have had 40gb of an 80gb drive just disappear - we were able to retrieve it

^^ @djake

On thing i tend to do Is turn off the flashy XP graphics. Get your XP looking like windows 98 - will give your pc a bit of breathing space when caning the processor etc...

and I tend not to have a desktop background - (more beneficial for Macs this tip tho.

You can do the same shits with Vista and it looks like freakin '98 too when you strip it down. Some upgrade.

"backed-up"

not very useful if you ask me... dont know why people bother really...
If your hard drive comes at you all frontin like, and you're all, Nuh mate, back da fuck up, and it leaves you alone, your hard drive has been backed up.

I back mine up regularly. Sometimes that bitch needs to be told how it is.

not to mention I clean it off on a regular basis. My aim dumps my dubs on my desktop and I usually move them to my other comp.

that is 2 weeks worth of tunes and pics, etc...
