that debate is getting long in my opinion.
FWD is about variety aint it? Where else you gonna get heartless, skepta and hatcha sort of rolling into one another all in the space of, what, 2 hours?

i can see why the 4th birthday pissed a few people off (appart from the incident outside, its kind of annoying how half the room left when Geeneus finished) But even the fact that all the MCs were over Geeneus not one of their usual DJs i think is quite a rare thing to witness, you get all the familair grime bars over really ravy Wizzbit instrus, and where else you gonna hear that?

Ammunition have lost their monopoly hold on dubstep and I suppose booking grime DJs is their way of dealing with that. There's a fairly exaustive discussion on that here: http://www.dissensus.com/showthread.php?t=2211

I try to never get invloved in discussions about things like this, but frankly I cannot see how so much fuss has been made over Fwd>> and their lineups.

It's a f*ckin clubnite - if you don't like what they do, either stop going or put your own nite on. Previous discussions on dubplate.net about who was/wasn't getting booked were ridiculous IMO - people were making out like Ammunition 'owed' certain DJs/acts a set just because of the music they've written/released. As for the inclusion of grime DJs & MCs, again it's up to Ammunition and what they want to with their nite.

Just because Fwd>> has been the flagship nite of the dubstep scene up until recently, it doesn't mean they owe sh*t to anyone else.

yeah but i'm just surprised that more people don't see the variety down at fwd as a positive thing... oh well. Just hope the night doesn't die due to no turnout

The comparison between FWD and the original Metalheadz nights is interesting ... cos thats kinda what I've been wanting FWD to be like in a way - a place to come and hear fresh beats, pushing things forward ... I'm all for diversity, but personally I dont really feel a lot of grime tunes, although I rate Plastcman for what he's been doing ... I dunno, I know a lot of peeps I know are looking to the recent forward lineups and grumbling at the grime DJ's. Not dissing grime here, but its a different vibe. Although I do like the energy that peeps like Skepta have been bringing to the night.

Now we have DMZ, and the Destructive nights to showcase 2 sides of the music, (DMZ dubstep, Destructive more breakstep) but the thing about Forward is the fact its an intimate mid-week thing, a meeting place for DJ's and producers as well as somewhere for punters to go and check new music. Its almost an institution. Not sure what my point is, and I know the grime/dubstep/FWD thing is getting long now, but at the end of the day FWD is not like it used to be. Its either the same old dubstep DJ's or new grime DJ's.

in all honesty fwd is only playin very limited new beats...you could count the producers being repped on your hands pretty much...
so its not pushin the sound that forward really.

all about the bigger picture though imho.

there's tons of wicked music out there, and not only in the dubstep/grime scenes...

good point about skepta though. i can see how people would complain when grime people come along, ball through doing their thing and then dissapear when someone like hatcha / youngsta comes on. The difference is some of the people turning up from the grime scene are genuinely into it, like Skepta. Anyone hear him on the rinsesessions roll deep CD getting all excited when Request Line starts coming in? At the last FWD he was very respectful towards what the night is about, rather than trying to take it over or whatever. We need more people like that down there that can make the bridge
