I recently picked up a pair of Shure M35X carts. They were $45 each. I was using Stanton 605SK's for a long time. After cleaning the stylus on one of the Stantons, I recorded the same passage of a record (I forget which one, it was dubstep) on my computer and compared the playback. The Shure's were more clear in the mid-high range. It was pretty minimal, but still noticeable. I also did this between the Stanton and the M44-7G and got pretty much the same qualitative result - the M44-7G was more clear in the mid-high range. I have yet to compare the 44-7G and M35X.

I have read reviews that the 44-7G has a flatter resonse (better sound) than the 44-7. The 44-7 will sound sharper for scratching. Both are built like freight trains.

I'm very happy with the M35X, for both quality and price. It's a more delicate stylus though, may not stand up to abuse. In any circumstance, clean your needles before you evaluate how they sound. Dip a brush in isopropyl alcohol and brush the needle from back to front.

Also, remember that the preamp in your mixer will affect the frequency response. So it's important to compare carts using the same mixer and channel.

I have mine adjusted to 2g. Don't need any more weight at all. Seen people however for what ever retarded idea that they would have it set to 3-4g . Like WTF is the point? And then they wonder why the sound quality of there vinyl just deteriorates so fast.

yeah eh.

This might have already been said but...

From what i have seen...

Ortofon Concords wear out your dubs quicker!!!

They cut into the groove harder than Shure M447 or stanton 500 making your dubs sound louder but also makin ur dubs wear out quicker.

okay i'm really doubting here which cartridges i should take, what are the better cartridges to play at home and use them at parties too?
shure's or ortofon's?
my mate uses ortofon's and tells me they're the best, he has some ortofon kentaro's and ortofon concorde's.
i'm thinking of buying the ortofon q-berts, since they seem to be needing the least tracking wear of the ortofon's (concidering price)(between 2-4g)
i want to keep my vinyls as long as possible..
i've also red and heard they have the best bass output and thats what we all want with dubstep no?

or should i go for shure M44-7-H, cause i've red so much good about it in this topic?
but since we moved on 3 years from this topic, i wanted to hear new experiences, or other recommendations for a good price?

i got myself ortofon om pro and never had a problem with it never tried Shure tho.
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.
