Wasn't that interested at first, thought it was good but didn't place iton any pedestals. Then, I gave it a few more listens and I'm really getting in to it! It's a very future sound, perfect for the police state societies with the dark tones and pirate radio crackles. Have to say I really like UK, similar to Forgive on the previous album, but the rest of the tracks are great too, Shell of Light being a possible favourite.

i know this is no longer anything to do with untrue but im interested...

obviously that might leave the sampler with nothing still...

They might or might not claim percentage of the profits...most likely they'll want an upfront payment and then a cut of the publishing in line with what they think their sample is worth...don't forget, this should've been agreed *before* the record was cut...once it's already been cut, the copyright owners can fix their price and insist on payment or get it pulled. But, as I said before, because there are likely so many people to get clearance from, it just isn't worth the film company trying to chase all the other owners to get clearance for what is relatively a small return...so they stop the record all together, to keep all the copyright holders happy. The label can release it ofcourse, without the samples on.

Given the increased interest in Burial in the last year, don't you think that someone might have actually looked at clearing the samples before release?

I'd like to think Hyperdub are a bit more pro than just crossing their fingers and hoping for the best.

I am feeling that Untrue is a perfect companion piece to the debut. I listened to them in succession and got a really nice beginning and evolution of his sound, atmosphere, feeling etc.
When I thought about it, the new album blew me away as being so different. So different, yet so within the sphere of his art.
Gorgeous it is.

my 2 cents

although there are some stunning 'stand out' tracks on Untrue, Burial is a better album. it gels more conherently.

more importantly, the first album had a real mysteriousness about it; it was really sadly nostalgic but you couldn't put your finger on why.

Untrue however, wears its heart on its sleeve; it drives home the THIS IS A SAD SONG aspect, and I think it loses an emotional dimension that made the first so intriging.

I would say that Burial himself has expressed his like of accessibility and old-school vocal hook honesty.
Burial: "Vocals . . .it needs to be glowing, swaying, but I want the tunes to be likeable. Not dark for the sake of it."
I would agree that the first album was more avant-garde, shocking, so future/past amazing, but the new one is a more explicit exploration of the sound he appreciates. It is different that is for sure.

I sort of agree but with titles like Gutted, You Hurt Me, Broken Home etc the first album wasn't massively subtle about its emotional stance either :)

I think what I would say though is that the lack of vocals in that one allows the listener to input something of their own in there. In which case the lack of vocals could make it more emotionally involving, rather than less.

oh yeah, totally - you knew where he was coming from with the first album, but it was more textured and restrained. untrue doesn't have the same depth, its a bit one dimensional (this is all relative remember!)
