Cubase SE3

Post by future producer » Thu Nov 22, 2007 5:59 pm

This seems alright although you can only have 16 VST instrument slots/5 insert effects per channel, I probably won't be using all of them due to lack of ram but I am wondering 2 things.

Exactly what instruments/effects do you get and do I get a dongle free with it?

Know what a USB flash drive is? It's like one of those but their used for copy protection. A lot of the big audio software boys are using because them, dunno if the latest for Cubase 4.1 has been cracked, I think their just a pain in the arse.

That's not really an issue, as you can get usb splitters for next to nothing.

The problem is by using a dongle for licensing you often get problems, jump on a cubase forum anywhere and you'll see people complaining about the stability of the dongle and the software.

Saying that, the dongle which comes with 4 has prevented it being cracked for a few years now, so I doubt steinburg care about the people having issues with them.

all power to em'.... not my sequencer of choice anyway...

Although the hype surrounding it as number one choice for home studios does make me want to give it a go

I used SX2 a few times with an old friend who had it and to tell you the truth I have never found a DAW that I was as comfortable with as Cubase.

Most computers have a bag of usb ports these days, no excuse :!:

Small tutorials here
http://www.auxbuss.com/cubase/cubase-sx-tutorial.htm

Theres built-in reverb / delay / compression effects to play with, 3 includes a Roomworks version.

Wouldn't it make more sense for the dongle to have a USB In port on the back, so that another device could be connected through it? That's how the old parallel/gameport dongles worked. Just a thought.

In fact, shouldn't all USB devices have another In port? It can be daisychained, it's in the spec.

more chance of breaking the fucker when you knock it or drop summat down the back. if you lose/ break the dongle the fuckers dont replace it... you have to buy the software again. any of you lot use a laptop to produce? dongles must be a pain in t'arse for that

Yeah I got a laptop but I have a USB hub tucked down the back of my desk.

Was reading on KVR that some guy took his laptop to a gig, had everything ready to go and left his dongle in the studio.... no playtime or money for him :(.
