It's not dark in that aggro axe murderering tech itch style, just restrained and sinister.
That is really a capital difference. Can't be underlined enough. Skream's Big Apple Ep is another good example.

His music is definitely the hardest and the most agressive dubstep!
yeah this is sick, every tune is well good
Joe C wrote:Excisions darkside dubstep mix on Barefiles

has a mix of Dark artists and some dark tunes by the big boys from a few years back
his release with innasekt (sully) on rottun is dark as fuck too

darkness is what got me into dubstep in the first place and im getting back into it again, some proper filth around at the moment

It's all about Cloaks and ANSTAM... http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?id=30836

I like Vex'd and a lot of the breaksteppy stuff on Oris Jay's label but when everyone starts using those same minor chords and crashing snares it becomes a formula and that's everything that dubstep is against, surely? I think a lot of DMZ releases, especially Loefah's, are much heavier, scarier and more *dread* than other records that go for the obvious sci-fi/horror atmospherics.

Large up the dark famo. Different kind of sound....

Loads of artists doing varied sounds in this vein these days....

Urban Grafitti, Red Volume, Creative Space and Combat Recordings set the standards in my opinion......

Make sure you check Sully, Scorn and Redline!

My SUB FM show has a dark, glitched feel to it.
