recording "what you hear"
i can't seem to be able to record "what you hear" on my pc, either at home or at work. It only has line in and microphone as the options on any recording program or in the audio settings.
anyone know any way round this? i'm stumped.

Double click the speaker icon in the Taskbar, right hand corner.
On the dialog box that pops up click Options >> Properties
Select your audio output under your mixer device. Press ok.
In the new dialog box click tick the box for "Wave Out Mix" - yours might be called something different.
Next open up your audio editor and press record, play whatever sounds you want to record from your computer.

On Windows, right click My Computer, go to Properties, hit Hardware, then Device Manager. Click the plus sign beside Sound, video and game cobtrollers. There will be shitloads of codecs, there will be any USB controllers you've got, but there should be something calling itself an 'audio processor' or 'audio interface' or something. Just list them all here if you aren't sure.
If you don't know what soundcard you've got, you're either using the one that came with the computer or the one built into the motherboard, right?
Only certain soundcards support 'what u hear' recording. Creative started it with the soundblaster series but it's been copied by a load of other manufacturers. Most motherboard manufacturers just copy the outdated early Creative chipsets, you might be in luck, have a google for the latest drivers when you find out what the card is.
Audio Hijack is Mac-only, but there's a few PC clones.
If all else fails, you can just run a cable from the output to the input and hit record on the line-in. Turn monitoring off or it'll just feed back.

kk, gimme a bit and I'll look through some shiz and see if we can get you fixed up... oh print screen me the audio output dialog from audio properties as well.
CTRL+PRT SC. should be on the top right of your keyboard
In the mean time upgrade your soundcard drivers if you haven't already, I dunno what pc/laptop your using so you'll need to go on to the manufacturers website and look through the drivers for your make/model.

New drivers.Joseph-J wrote:"SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD audio"?
Can't seem to find a manual for it online.

Didn't think I'd see that phrase again. Did you dribble and say "Doey" at the same time, find it really helps emphasise the little episodes.Joseph-J wrote:I'd never thought of this.Auan wrote:If all else fails, you can just run a cable from the output to the input and hit record on the line-in.
