Need help

Post by 2000f » Tue Apr 25, 2006 9:35 am

New dub and jungle inspired Dubstep/Halfstep tune:

Obeah: "Copenhagen Massive" (2000f@ohoi.dk)
http://download.yousendit.com/1A5124AB72820061

Note: I haven´t finished all bass and drum fills, general edits, dub and vocal FX (and it might need some more arranging). It´s "mixed" on my tiny 12" Powerbook speaker. It will of course be mixed properly (with all my real tape echoes, spring and plate reverbs etc) at the studio, however I need help now with regard to my "Dred Bass" bass line!

I have deliberately made the bass line a bit "cheeky" (think old Jungle), thought I´m not sure whether or not it fits the tune. I don´t want a pure sine sub, like old dub, but rather a bit more "uptempo" bass line.
What do you reckon?

When it´s done around next week, I´ll post a proper 320 kbps MP3.
Bless.

Works well i think, riff does get boring though after bout 4 minutes. Should have some little nasty bass switches in it to keep it interesting. Like you said you havn't finished yet. Cool stuff mang, keep us posted.

Yeah, exactly. I decided not do any more edits/fills/variations before I knew whether or not if fit the rest of the track. Ill also shorten the track by 1 or 2 minutes. But thanks. It´s all appriciated!

Yeah, good like it, sounds a bit cluttered (way too much reverb and echo), but good and heavy. Bit more dynamic range as it sounds way too maxed out, but I like the elements. That bass sounds fuckin raw, wouldn't mess with that too much. That'd sound evil on a big system.

As you say though work in progress so look forward to the finished mix.

I reckon you are right, both with regards to the maximizer (Reason´s limiter isn´t all that good) as well as the reverb/delay/echo levels. Thanks for the input. It´s a bit hard to tell when using only the built-in speakers of the Powerbook. :)

Cheers!

Fair enough, like I said it sounds good. I used to mix through my rather poor hi-fi speakers, when I got some decent monitors it sounded horrific.

This was much better than my efforts though, just sounded a bit too industrial on that mix.

Look forward to the finished results though...

Cheers, mate. Thanks for the feedback.

"The second bass line sounds muddy"... is that the one sounding like the old reverse/"Dred" bass?

Is it the mix, the sound itself or the bass line/melody that´s muddy? Would like to sort it out. :)
