Got any advice for mixing?

I'm just getting my first dubstep record order this week. I have a good back ground in djing but I'm intimidated by slower music. (d'n'b background mostly). I hear a lot of quick mixing and start/stop being used in dubstep mixes and while I would guess that's standard fair sometimes I would like to avoid that as much as possible.

And no, I'm not going into this with d'n'b mentality, but I'll probably play other genres with my DS... guess trial and error is the way but figured I'd search out for some possible techniques.

That thread gravious pointed to is great. I only got back with decks (after a 6 year break) for dubstep's sake about 2 weeks ago. Its not as hard as all that (at home with descent monitoring anyway). Fear is the mind killer.

funny, I'm having the same trouble. That thread is good however it's mainly just the basics of mixing in general which I have down. Was looking more from some advice from going from one genre to another I suppose as mixing d'n'b is really easy for me while mixing techno or house usually is tougher. I have to assume that dubstep will be even harder than that.

I'm thinking that track selection will be infinitely more important with dubstep than with most d'n'b.

watch out for all the melodies !!!
I started out mixing with oldschool hiphop 10 years back, so Im having trouble listening to mixing where people dont respect a tracks vocal: cut of in the middle of a line, starting it without the first lines of vocal etc . . .
the same goes for all the melodies! watch out for mismatching melodies!
too many dj sets lets two melodies play together for a long mix. And the whole mix sounds sour !!!

Noted. I don't have a good musical background so I just play what sounds good together. No need for key clashing, I agree.
