Ultra Beat is great - program your beat like a'la drumsequencer, then just drag and drop it in to the arrangement window as a midi region to refine your groove (using the pattern button in the bottom right hand corner)

I'm a Logic user whose recently gone from version 5 on PC to Logic 8 on mac. Was really worried i'd miss my PC only plugins, but tbh the staple things - EQ, compressor, reverb, synths in logic are all absolutely fine for my needs.

My only gripe is with the EXS24 (the built in sampler), it should've been updated by now man, can't believe you still can't even put different filters/envelopes on different sounds. Have started using kontakt which is good but a bit overly bloated for my liking, wish shortcircuit was available for mac...

Only thing in Cubase's favour imo is its audio editing features which are FAR superior to Logics, and a much wider range of 3rd party plugins are available (this can be a major hinderance though).

But yeah apart from those two complaints Logic is great and if you already have a mac its a complete no-brainer at £280 or £118 educational.

Never in my life have I used anybody else's drum sequences or loops.

It would feel like cheating.

Every pattern, lovingly made from scratch. Sometimes, every beat lovingly made from scratch, too.

yeah, I use those

because they are dope

but there is ALWAYS filtering or tweaking on my drums so they sound original, and not like a preset, c'mon

Yeah it can be restrictive as a standalone

- for the filters on separate sounds just use the multi cannel ESX24 and use the logic filters etc on the aux channels they're routed to - If you utilise it this way it opens things up a little - an not just with filtering

The Ultrabeat kick drum sounds are solid as fuck. Pretty much all I use.
