Distortion (OHM Force)
Just started using the Ohmicide plugin, and it's obviously a very powerful tool, but I can't get my head round the manymanymany different types of distortion it offers... They all seem to completely decimate the sound. wich ones are good for sublte warming up, and gentle saturation type stuff
I really like the distortion in Quad Frohmage, is there one in Ohmicide that does the same thing...

Standard procedure, but with Omicide there are loadandloads of different distortion "Types", and they vary hugely. I jus wanna know wich one i should use...Deadly Habit wrote:play around the presets and go from there

are you setting up and FX track with the distortion on and sending your selected channels to that fx track?, or literally putting the ohmforce distortion over the whole of the selected channel?
reason i ask is that if its on an fx track, then your selected sound you wanna distort won't be totally covered by the distortion, thus solving the issue of why all the presets make your selected sound so mental!

reckon i've not got the drive too high, and it's not 100% wet, but its the Distortion types I'm having trouble with...
I cycle through them and I can't seem to find one that sounds like the one in Frohmage... I'd really like to use Ohmicide to for example warm up the the mid an scramble the fuck out of the top whiles leaving the bottom alone, but I can't get the "type" of distortion I want in the "type" menu...

How about you spend some time by yourself with the plug in, read the manual and experiment with what the guys who made it are suggesting and also add some of your own ideas...

i'm just getting into distortion and sound decimation. taking my sound into a bit techier direction right now. i'll give my two cents here - i just finished a track with a lot of distortion in it, so I can give you direct reference to sounds that were processed using different plugs and techniques.
PSP vintage warmer is great. the compression and saturation along with eq and just how it treats the sound is really pleasing. where you need to keep things a bit more together this is useful. has a mix knob too so you can bleed in the original signal if you're wanting to keep the original freqs true. I find bass frequencies can quickly dissapear under ditortion, so it's always a consideration when affecting bass instruments to keep the lowest frequencies clean by iether mixing in the original source, or making two instances of the sound, filtering them so one is in the high freq, the other is in the low, and then affecting the top frequency with distortion or w/e so you keep the subs rattling.
i like psp mixbass for saturation. it really destroys the sound though and you'll have noises where there are none in your source material when really pushing it. It's pleasing, but just check it - you may need to adjust your input accordingly. check sub in the tune in my sig (http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=34765) - the effect was done by applying this to a bass insturment. I sent it to a send and processed the high freqs seperately for the textural portion of the sound. It's a bit ugly though - sort of sloppy - but really dratic and hard at the same time. I love this plug. it's one of my favs.
i really like that one filter that comes with cubase too (can't remember the naem) - it's got saturation in it that's GREAT. I'm starting to use this one a lot! again, check the tune in my sig. the distorted metal guitaresque saw thing was created by using multiple instances of this plug in series. REALLY great shit. very controllable - good for use in areas of the mix that need to be a bit tidier.
For kicks i've been working with some bit crushing. I find it ads texture while maintaining the low freqs. eq and compress and you get a good grimey texture. again, check the new one if you want an example
