HELLLLLO MUM!!!!
well i'm assuming you've already waited a while. try pressing the power button on the front again. just hit it once first, then try holding it. if it's still stuck after that just unplug it from the power source and pray. should be fine though, mine usually lets me power down when it's stuck on the grey screen.
you could also try command + option + esc but that probably won't do anything.

Mac Rescue
hi, sorry to hear about your problems.
Assuming you back up regularly and have copies of your work and applications...If everything else fails,
pull the plug, as suggested in the previous message, then...
(deep breath)
insert the OSX disc that came with your computer, restart with the 'C' key held down.
or if you can't get a CD into the tray, copy the OSX disc's contents onto an external hard drive and attach via firewire to your machine.
Either way, on power up, this will run your machine from the external operating system allowing you to perform maintenance on your computer.
If it's really bad your only option may be to do a clean install. (hence backing up before you get into problems next time) if you haven't you'll get into the habit from now on. On the plus side, bare in mind Mac's cannot get a virus and so by running a simple "verify disc permissions" test from Disk Utility on the CD should sort out any trouble. Otherwise just re-format your machine. Sounds harsh but once you've done it once its not so scary. If you don't know what I'm talking about, read about it online at apple.com (at an internet cafe) or in the instruction manual that came with your computer.
Hope this helps.
