The winners would, of course, get the losers vinyl, which will be more valuble than gold.

PS. Vinyl is nice, can't be beat for sound or tactility ... except for the price. Shipping to AU nearly doubles the price of vinyl.

it's complete bollocks, I've seen this meme rolled out so many times, and there's not one piece of corroborative evidence to support it. Yes, of course it's getting more expensive to manufacture - the price of oil has gone through the fucking roof in the last 5 yrs, hence why less vinyl is being made/sold - but the idea that it will somehow become illegal to produce at some stage soon is just silly.juliun_c90 wrote:yeah that's hardly the same thing as a global vinyl ban in two years. couldn't find any info to support this. smacks to me of idle internet rumour not based in trurth. anybody else found any links to support this?DrQuynh wrote:Trying to find the original article on this online, it's been a few years... took place in a thread on CDJ vs Vinyljuliun_c90 wrote:DrQuynh wrote:keep thinking that... in 2010, they will stop producing vinyl, because OPEC has signed an agreement... = no more virgin vinyl... you will assimilate.![]()
i'm sceptical- a link to some more info on this please.
none the less, here is a BIT on the concept from TIME MAGAZINE:
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/artic ... -1,00.html
"That advice has long been out of fashion in a nation surfeited with material abundance, but now it may be on the verge of a comeback. At the height of its biggest boom, the U.S. seems almost to be based on an economy of scarcity. Shortages of an astounding variety of goods—fuel oil, nonferrous metals, wool, copper, cotton denims, vinyl records, plastic bottles, to name a few—are jacking up prices, interfering with production, and in some cases directly threatening American living standards."

vinyls are better for then in the post apocolyptic wastelands that XOR speaks you can use them as lethal frisbee's against your mortal enemies, what you gonna do with MP3's? hurl your laptop at them?

The cost of vinyl: Over the last 15 - 20 years the cost of a 12" inch has risen well below the rate of inflation. In the UK prices have remained around the £5 - £6 for a long time. Compare the cost of a 12" to a round of drinks down the pub or a pack of cigarettes is still represents excellent value for money (as well as having superior sound quality
