Urei 1601 Mixer Query

Post by Horza » Sun Jan 06, 2008 6:57 am

Been searching on the internet for what seems an age and cant seem to find any information regarding a certain feature of this mixer. I've seen quite a few hardware questions get brought up here and answered so I thought I'd throw this one at you all.

"Session In & Out facility allow daisy chaining of mixers (for group session)"

This is taken from the official press notes of the 1601. I was just wondering how would you set this up regarding hooking it to a sound system and connecting the two (or more!) mixers together?

Any experience/knowledge of something along these lines, with this mixer or not would be greatly appreciated. Peace! :)

This got my curiosity going so I had a quick google. I didn't realise it was a DJ mixer, not a mixing desk, and DJ mixers just aren't my bag, baby. But the manual doesn't mention Session In/Out connections at all. You sure you've got the right mixer?

not certain about this particular mixer, but usually it´s just a regular aux.

That link is the official site for the mixer, if you check the key features it says it there. It mentions "Session In & Out" and the only port I think it could be is the FX Send & Return which doubles up as the aux.

So do you reckon you'd connect the send and return modes of each mixer together, but set one mixer to send, the other return, and then have the mixer in return running in to the amp?

Ahhh the satisfying blag of hardware :)

I thought all Urei mixers have been discontinued. They sold all their remaining stock to Hard To Find Records, but they're quite limited and HTFR are a bunch of wankers

I got mine for HTFR 2 xmas' ago and don't regret it at all. So Urei have stopped producing new units and aren't gonna produce anymore? Why what happened with them? I can honestly say I absolutely love my mixer and the fact I can upgrade and put an Eclectic Breaks XFader on it means I think Im gonna be happy for atleast another year! :)

Yeah apparently they went into administration and sold the rest off. Kind of a pity really because I always liked the look of them - good price, great functionality and pretty cool to look at as well. Oh well, part of the circle of life I guess...

UREI were bought by JBL in early eighties cause they were stealing market with their undoubtedly succesful 813 and 815 studio monitors. They manufactured some more 813C monitors with JBL woofers tho.

Urei do (well used to haha!) a rotary still mixer, have you ever used one of them? Would love to give one a blast to be honest!
Really feel like doing something to my setup, just so I can be more creative and try different things.
Currently have 2 Technics MK5G and the Urei 1601, don't know whether to get a laptop and ableton, or a new mixer and 2 more turntables. Obviously the plan eventually is to get all off that though hehe!
