anyone seen the new prices for 2008 london transport?

Post by dubluke » Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:23 pm

FUCKING OUTRAGEOUS

i should not have to pay 65 fucking quid i don't have a month in order to be able to get to college, there is no way in hell it can cost that much to take me 20 minutes on the train, its even worse for those older than me, and they can't even make the fucking transport run on time

Yeah mate I agree with you, I have that 16-17 oyster card, for a 1-4 travel card for a week is now 17.20.

Fucking outrageous I can't JUST bus it either, takes the right mick.

17.20 might not seem a lot to some people but my only income is EMA :x

They wonder why people bunk it too?

i've got a job but don't get EMA, and don't earn enough to pay that frequently, bussing it would be free but would take four hours (literally)....fucking outrageous

You know, I'm pretty sure it would have been around the same if not more 10 years ago. It's actually come down quite a lot since then and the service is also way better.

the prices have been steadily going up on a lot of things mass, especially on rail (which unfortunately is what i need the card to travel on), and trust me the rail service does not run much better, agreed buses are doing well now, but thats not so much where my beef lies, my train is delayed at least 2/3 times a week, and no matter how early i leave to compensate for this i'm often delayed getting into college and as a consequence get a bad rep. with teachers, which never helps your grades

my other problem is that if they are really so keen on getting people out of cars/off bikes then why the fuck are they bringing the prices up? i can run my scooter for about 2 quid a week and get everywhere really fast, or i can travel on a travelcard everywhere for about 20 quid, and it'll take ages

I must admit...

My train is never delayed and the northern line hardly ever has any trouble! Since September (when I started college) I haven't had one train delayed or one tube so I have no beef with the service, just the price is a bit to much for me..

i wouldn't mind so much if the stuff ran alright, but i have a myriad of delays every month both getting to and coming back from college, coming home its hassle but normally doesn't matter so much, but getting stuck in between stations for half an hour before college does, cos they give you shit grades if you're late at my college, and getting penalised cos of the fucked up trains is a longting

Well it's definitely not usual for me to say things have gotten better!

I suppose I'm talking about buses mostly - I lived in London until about 10 years ago and I swear a weekly 1-4 travelcard would have been around that same price, and the buses were rubbish, so was the Northern Line.

All I can dig up is that in late 1997 a weekly Zone 2-3-4 Bus Pass (not Travelcard) was £6.60. If you take into account inflation that's probably around a tenner now. Add in Zone 1 and tube travel... Be interesting to know anyway. Not saying you don't have reason to complain, London transport has always been expensive and a bit crap compared to other big cities.

yeah fair enough, i know a lot of improvements have been made, but some of these prices just smack of greediness...i wouldn't mind about the prices if i could actually afford them, but i'm in a bit of a bad situation, as the money i earn at work doesn't cover travelcard costs, but i don't get any EMA funding from college, despite probably needing it, as the boundary for it is pretty low, and i feel like it should not cost that much for a 20 minute train journey each way

I use a PAUG Oyster when I'm down visiting my girlfriend, and I'm amazed at how much better and cheaper the transport it is than in Nottingham. It's three quid a chuck for a single on a fairly short night bus journey here, £1.40ish during the day. And things are supposed to be cheaper up here. And don't get me started on the countryside... anyone fancy walking a mile to the next village at one specific time of day on tuesday or friday only in order to pay three quid a single to get into town.

Well you picked out the one bit where I'm not saying it's improved. It has, especially the buses. I live in Brighton most of the time and the buses cost loads more than London, but then you can walk or cycle most places. Still lots of cities in other countries are better served, which is what I meant.
