alot of the point of dmz is that everyone goes to dance however they want to, without fear of being singled out for the way they "dance".
if ur feelin the music and showing it, dont matter what you look like does it..?
yea bang on

remember the 1st time i ever went to a club that played dubstep (subdub luckily haha)..just bein confused how to take it in and dance or..move

That's not what I meant. I couldn't care less about anyone's brands - that's not even an issue here. As for the brock out aspect I like a good spaz out when a big tune comes as much as the next gyal but it doesn't need to be for the whole night.

The last thing I wanted to do was suggest people should stop expressing themselves in their own way. It's just that there's so much that can be expressed through dance - joy, real power, aggression, playfulness, sensuality, community and individuality, etc etc. And when you bring other people into the equation the possibilities are multiplied cos then it can be about communication too. Of course there's a valid space for the brock out in this but if that's all you do all night it ends up being just a bit 2D and where's the individual expression then?

And as for the person posted sayin they go home at the end of the dance hopin no-one's clocked them shockin out, I feel bad for you mate. You need to big yourself up more at the rave. If you think you look like a fool when you dance then do something different. Find someone doin something sick and nick their moves  Experiment, find your own dance out of other bits. Why are we all so fucking english about this dancing thing?

Sorry if I came across as a bit of a fascist in my initial post - now I probably sound like a hippy but I do think it's really interesting to see how people view things like dance in such different ways.

Agree with this.

Last dance I was at a portion of every drink I bought got knocked and split. I'm not the sort of person to screwface at that sort of thing but there was no appologies or friendly vibes,

It's alright at DMZ though cause there's enough room to find your spot.

One of my best experiences at a night though was seeing Kode 9 and Spaceape in Notts about 2 years ago. There was literally about 10 people in the room...loads of space and positive energy. Spaceape got everyone knees-up running on the spot when Kode dropped Anti War Dub. Jokes.

what a complete waste of bandwidth

a thread telling people how to dance, or rather how not to dance

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

why go to a rave to watch other people dance anyway?

YOU HAVE ISSUES.

Of course Stanton! What about at the reggae dance ? You don't want to be still doing the Scooby Doo when everyone else is on the Hand Grenade.

Dancing is an expression of your love for the music and has developed from people having a good time and enjoying a night out. For myself it has become as much of a passion as music itself and producing / mixing.

The best thing about Dubstep nights is the atmosphere and the people (varies from location and venue), whether its somewhere where people are hearing the sound for the first time, or a well known venue (my local being Exodus and the West Indian Centre in Leeds) you will witness a different type of experience at each, and the hypnotic feeling of Sub Low fequencies through a very large and quality soundsystem is a very different and special experience.

I understand why people found Dubstep a difficult sound to dance to at first, but now it should be be an area that people want to explore and develop.

Personnally I enjoy many different styles of dancing to different styles of music.

In a well crowded venue its all about staying grounded and swaying your body whilst finding many different ways to nod your head, whilst if you have the space to express yourself dont be afraid to do so. Remember to juss be relaxed and let the music take hold of you. Anyone can learn to dance aslong as you have rythym and soul.

I used to Breakdance but couldnt keep up with the practice as my DJ'ing took more priority, and to be good at Breakdancing you have to commit to regular training and exercise. Its all about bodypopping, robot dancing and fancy footwork.

Ive seen breakers start bustin moves out to Dubstep, which is totally possible as the music generally falls around 140bpm which is faster than House, Techno and Breakbeat, but the space between beats is wider like with hiphop. I have a passion for good hiphop coming from being a heavy toker and skateboarder in my youth, and although its not my favourite music it is great to dance to, especially when grindin with ladies  and I love cripwalking and developing step moves, which ive recently broke out to Dubstep from having a skank, with the more upbeat tunes bringing most creativity.

Whether standing by the bar nodding your head and listening, clasping onto the speaker stack with your head in the bass bin, throwing shapes like a true raver or breakin moves out like a pro, remember not to worry what people that arent free enough to move with music think, and to respect peoples space around you (especially in a crowded location) Dont be the sweaty guy the causes beef by knocking into a man's girlfriends or spilling peoples drinks!!

So we've got the fashion police and now the dance police. Last 2 events we attended were too busy for much dancing anyway. Push shove and trample brigade spoiling the party. Let alone dickheads staring at you just for being there anyway.
