hahha...nothing like having a winge about dubstep then moaning when the dj on before you draws for the Breakage or Zinc remix of Night before you can.

Meh... The DNB heads are indeed defensive. In a sense don't you agree with them? I mean after all DNB is slowly being phased out in major cities in north america since the sounds and the atmosphere of dubstep is getting the attention of various other genre's. Combined it create's a bigger force to be recon with and it only grows..

But really... Who have they lost now.. JuJu... Tipper.... Tech Itch....
08 is going to be a really bad year for DNB. I can sense it. I mean christ has anyone seen any of the Upcoming releases for this year? Its recycled shit from 04 to 06 and what not.

DOA is run and read by complete fools.
It's what I dread this one becoming tho I'm sure it never will.

You know not what your talking about or its that your sense's are slightly off. I run 2 DNB labels Flatline & Flatline Ltd along with Dubline the dubstep sister label. Obviously Drum N Bass is having some issues. Mainly filtering DNB that is crap, which is the part of DNB that is falling away. Fakesters, commercialism, poor production producer wanna be's, shitty labels, etc are the ones who are leaving. Its going back underground just like Techno has and did. It had its rise to fame, its not the new hot shit, so the bandwagon jumpers are bailing out to the next tracktor pull, and thats ok. It will happen with Dubstep too. It inevitable with EDM music, eventually a subgender that was an underground music gets exploited and will reach a point that it is no longer fresh, and people will bail.

If you are really paying attention to good Drum and Bass and what good music is being released. You'll notice releases are constantly still selling out. DJ's are constantly getting booked. Tunes are still being fought over signing rights. New artists are constantly developing a hotter sound with the technology that is around them. We still book headliners once a month for our Drum Ritual parties in Wash DC. DJ's are getting flown all over the world. Subgenders are still being developed such as Techno DNB.

2008 will be great for DNB. Good music will always have a place for people who know what this music is, how to obtain it, and obviously have the heart, the passion that comes along with it.

Between both my labels the numbers aren't much different in sales figures for records sold for DNB or for Dubstep. Stakka is gonna push the same amount of units say a Scuba will. But to say DNB in 2008 is gonna fall off isnt really the truth. To many people involved. Too many soldiers that wont say quit. Look at what Flatline has line up for the first 6 months of the year. 2008 is gonna be bonkerz for Dubstep and DNB. Long live both of em'

Flatline CDLP001 - Theft From The Right Hand Side LP

------

Hot on the heels of the Pyro & Hidden 12"s which drop on full release the end of this month on Flatline & Flatline Ltd is the From the Streets LP. Looks to be a late February release for the From The Streets LP Sampler which is to be followed by the From The Streets 2 x 12" double pack and a 10 track MP3 LP release. The MP3 version of the LP will be released same day as promo of vinyl EP for all you digital people.

February we'll also see the release of Theft From The Right Hand Side CDLP001. Keep'em peeled for that, as its a limited CD run, though will be available as a digital download after CD is released. The Phono 12" will be next to go after the CDLP001. Catacomb's - Wipe Your Species EP and the Subtone and Stalker 12" follows after the Phono plate.

There is some audio of the 'forthcoming' beats available. Check the Flatline myspace and our Drum Ritual myspace for clips of Tweak, Time Will Crawl, Bunker, & the Supercharger remix. 2 bits of audio from Catacomb's Wipe Your Species EP are up on the Catacomb myspace as well.

"My favourite music is better than yours".

LOL

Rise above it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion even if they aren't very nice about it.

Dubstep doesn't need defending from words on the internet.

Well said. I'm really keen to see what's comes out of this year for D&B. Starting buying bits and pieces again last year after a LONG time
thanks to Darkestral, Bassbin and Breakage.

I've still got a huge love for Dubstep, but releases wise, 2007 was sorely lacking in the type of genre defying innovation that Breakage achieved with The Shroud, Clarendon and Come Back.

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping that this'll be the year that people start to recognize the Darkestral / Bassbin / Offshore / Subtle Audio / Subvert Central Recs / Inperspective / CI etc stuff as something pretty much independent of the mainstream of dnb and more people who'd written dnb off based on listening to Fabio and Grooverider or whatever start to find out about it and pick up on it.

But then I said that last year...

Hmmm, well in the same sense, you saw 2007 be the rise of tech producer Masheen, and the offkey label took off with the techno DNB sound. As well as a few labels like Prspct, Citrus, & Syndrome really broke out in 2007.

I like those tunes but half step dubby drum and bass has been around forever and a day... to say those tunes were ground breaking only serves to show how little attention you've been paying to the genre :) which you more or less admitted yourself innit. there's a lot of properly different stuff going on on the fringes, and definitely music to be excited about, but there always has been. it never went away, it just wasn't in the limelight. breakage has done a lot for the sound and he's been making good music for years, but he's just one name of many.

Used to be big a dnb head but went off it over the last 2 years until I discovered Offkey this year and suddenly found some dnb which I feel enthusiastic about. Looking forward to the sound developing in 2008!

Absolutely Ben. I wasn't suggesting for a minute he's the be all and end all, but little else last year in Dubstep, D&B or any other genre for that matter, grabbed me by the balls in the way those three tunes did.

And I do pay attention young man  but yeah, maybe not as much as used to. A few recommendations from yourself then?

LOL

I find it hilarious and sad yet totally unsurprising that DOA hates on dubstep so much. Biggup Jazz and Frodo for defending, Ive got involved a couple times and hovered over post reply many more but shit, one pops up every day. Habits thread is at least funny/cleaver (I myself am dubious of the awards).

For me it's about really getting into a tune, when I do, I dance, shit, if I'm really feeling it I'll throw in some robot and poppin/lockin. (As I did to DnB 10 - 4 years ago). But before I left nz it was all about hangin at the back chin stroking. Dubstep has got me back on the floor with a vengeance and given me something new and inspiring to freestyle over.

Anyway rant over, I'll be at fwd tonight celebrating getting fired from my first shitty temp London office job for being on the internet too much.

I'll be wearing my I <3 dubstep T shirt.

Say hey and give me the dubstep secret handshake.
