Suggestion for the production forum - Producers Q+A

This idea is blatantly taken from DOA and other such sites, but...

Don't you think it would be good to have a guest producer (someone who has releases) open themselves up to production questions from the forum heads?

Maybe a new producer each month, with the forum heads nominating a producer of choice.

Your thoughts?

Dubstep is a small tree. Those at the top of it are still very close to the ground and many aren't willing to give away 'secrets' to those others who're struggling to clamber their way up.

For answers, you should look outside of Dubstep production info, otherwise it's going to get inbred with sameness, like D&B. I mean, really. It's not as if DS is using techniques that aren't already being utilised freely elsewhere. Even the mighty wobble is a second-hand trick.

thats true, but it would still be interesting to ask producers specific questions about their tunes, like 'coki, what the fuck where you smoking when you came up with earth a run red?'

I find that generally those who are unwilling to discuss their methods are the ones who preset hop the most.

You dont have to show exactly how you get that super-duper new sound you made yesterday thats gonna make your new track a hit, but you dont have to go that far to be generous.

The DoQ Q&A sessions are absolute shite for the most part

most the info anyone needs is already available on the internet and people just need to put in the effort to find it and/or understand it

there is NO need for 15page forum Q&A topics so people can ask 'big names' about how they were influenced, how they start making tracks, what processing they use etc. The fat that Nu:Tone creates and layers subtractor patches for his basslines is neither here nor there, you could get the same bassline 100 other ways - if it takes a 'big name' to inform you that bass comes from synths then you're far too lazy and should sod off

you're really under no compulsion to read them are you?

Personally I find some of them interesting, the Paradox & Polar ones in particular, and I don't even write beats these days...

There is something like this under discussion between us Mods, will post if/when more info is forthcoming.

there's only a certain limited number of production techniques in existence and like chunkie says there out there for the finding already if u bother to look.

yeah, there's definitely stuff to be learnt from other people. but big names r not neccessarily more technical than smaller ones. theres plenty of advice on here and other forums from knowledgable ppl already.

and considering the number of threads i seen on this forum discussing/hypotheticising over burial's techniques, u might expect more people 2b coming out with stuf thats the same...but its not really the technique that makes it special. and i think thats the case with most music to b honest, its what u do with the technique that matters

but it doesnt hurt i guess
