Which Pole album would you recommend as an ice-breaker? For yonks ive been meaning to get round to buying one of his albums after hearing odd tracks and reading reviews bout the geezer, and now is the time!

If you want the original, further developed r&s crackle atmosphere sound - defo 2 (the red) or 3 (the yellow)....
R is really good as well...
I personally liked the Pole LP as well....but from there on it s not what it used to be (and what I fell in love with) at all.

I really like what i have heard of pole, the bass is ridiculously heavy, and i love the percussion. The idea of basing your entire sound around a freak accident is really interesting. The pops and crackles remind me a lot of burial (yeah i know, wrong way round), even if burial is seemingly not a fan.

Although was just on burial's myspace, and pole seems to like him. Awkward.

Not sure what i think of R, it just being versions of Raum, but haven't actually listened to much of it yet, so shouldn't go passing judgement. The simplicity of Pole's sound does kind of make me think he could get samey fairly easily.

Was looking for some pole mixes ages ago, but i don't think anyone had any.

The split EP he did with Four Tet is pretty sublime.

Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?

Pole 1, 2, and 3 (Blue, Red, Yellow, I think) are nice. You can definitely hear a progression in his sound - 1 is the most spacious and minimal sounding while 3 is much more rhythmic and driving - well, as much as anything comprising mainly static and sub bass can be described as 'driving'.
Haven't heard any of his recent stuff but will check it out.
