watched episode 3 last night. Easily the best episode of the season -- better than the debut of season 5. Better than the end of season 4.
Few things:
1. McNulty is the greatest TV cop ever. DONE. Now he's got help from Lester? What the hell is McNulty gonna do next?
2. Marlo is ruthless. So are Chris and Snoop.
3. Everyone is scared of Omar. EVERYONE.
PropJoe said, "Omar is gone. The last thing i want is his crazy ass coming after me."
Chris and Snoop are on the hunt and Snoop says, "Why are we hunting Omar? We don't need him coming after us."
4. Bring on next week's episode !

there's an american gangster show featuring him - with simon and burns both talking about him, the code with the phones was from his operation for example.electric eliminator wrote:@joenice, on the art/life thing, I'm sure i read somewhere that the dude who plays the deacon (melvin williams i think) was actually a former dealer/gangmember who was the subject of an on going wire tap by one of the shows main creators! How many tv shows can boast that?
'Melvin Williams aka 'Little Melvin' was putting in some serious work on the streets of Baltimore. He was a criminal mastermind who was originally known as an expert gambler on Pennsylvania Ave. His I.Q. was off the charts and he was able to use his wits to control the most intricate heroin ring in a big city. He is known as 'the man who brought heroin to Baltimore.'
Little Melvin was the king of Baltimore's drug trade for more than three decades. He stayed one step ahead of police at all times who tried for years and years to apprehend him. Finally, the police got dirty and framed Melvin by orchestrating a raid and putting heroin in his pockets. He ended up spending a total of 26.5 years in prison on heroin and cocaine distribution charges. His drug network had accummulated millions of dollars.
Little Melvin's stories have inspired several characters and episodes in The Wire and now as a free man, he even has a re-curring role in the series. Today he spends time reaching out to young people to prevent them from making the same mistakes he made because 26 years in the pen is no joke. '

oh man, episode 3 was definitely brilliant. I think we can all see the stormclouds gathering. Good to see Omar coming back(even if it is on a sad note of course), as he's without doubt one of the most intriguing characters on the show.
I'm not sure, but I have the feeling something is gonna happen in Marlo's own camp before the end of the show..

i think chris is the most interesting person in marlo's camp - snoop just enjoys killing, chris however you can't quite read.Schamotnik wrote:oh man, episode 3 was definitely brilliant. i was a bit surprised with the freamon..him and mcnulty aren't that dissimilar although freamon is more considered in his actions and less self-destructive.
It definitely looks like Cheese and Slim Charles have key roles to play in whether the co-op stays strong, or marlo starts to take over.

I do agree on chris.. he'll be a very important character this year.datura wrote: i think chris is the most interesting person in marlo's camp - snoop just enjoys killing, chris however you can't quite read.
I'm not sure about snoop.. I don't think she enjoys killing, it's just what she does.. she doesn't think about it..
btw. I've been wondering about marlo's crew alot.. why do you think it is that marlo is the leader? I don't really see what makes him the head of his crew.. I mean, he isn't a natural leader of avon's kind or as smart as prop joe.. I wonder what legitimates(legitimises?) him in chris' and snoop's eyes..

Been thinking the exact same thing, all he does is say 'hmmm' a lot, and stare vacantly.Schamotnik wrote: btw. Marlo is strong, focused and ruthless. You don't always need to be the most charismatic to be a leader - he may be frugal with words (as chris and slim charles were saying by the car in his meet with prop joe) but is decisive and ambitious, and that is reflected in the loyalty shown by his subordinates. In fact, the only person who can be seen as a potential weak link is michael.
I agree with everything said here.Schamotnik wrote:oh man, episode 3 was definitely brilliant. I think we can all see the stormclouds gathering. Good to see Omar coming back(even if it is on a sad note of course), as he's without doubt one of the most intriguing characters on the show.

Greatest TV cop ever. He's sealed the deal. In second place (and it's close !!) the combo of Benson & Stabler from Law & Order SVU. They're great. Trust me on this.electric eliminator wrote:Mcnulty is an animal.
If you believe McNulty is the best -- who's your second? Is McNulty the best?
By the way -- Dominic West, the actor that portrays McNulty, is British. He's from Sheffield. Idris Elba, the actor that portrayed Stringer Bell, is from London.
Chris wants more than what he has right now....but he respects Marlo's authority as the ring leader and that respect "keeps him in line". He's not going anywhere. Chris is smart. Snoop -- she's just cold. Ice cold.datura wrote:i think chris is the most interesting person in marlo's camp - snoop just enjoys killing, chris however you can't quite read.

Freamon -- that guy is this generation's version of Sherlock Holmes. I'm not sure any other police officer would have noticed the nails on the vacant houses (season 4). Cheese and Slim Charles have one interest -- making money. I don't think they care about their rise to power or gaining notoriety. They just want $. They're happy being the second fiddle.
I think Michael is a weak link, but only because he's young. Additionally, i'm not sure he has the heart for this -- which is somewhat of an oxymoron, because you can't have a heart at all when you kill for a living. Initially, he refused Marlo's cash on the streets. Chris and Snoop saw that as being disrespectful -- Marlo saw something different. When Michael's dad was being less than a Dad, the only place Michael could turn to was Marlo. It's not because Michael wanted to, it's because he had to. The other corner boys (Poot, Bodie....etc), they were too old to remove themselves from the streets and as a result, that decision was made for them -- one way or another. Each of them made the choice at a young age to not have a choice at an older age. Since Michael won't get a chance to mature on the show, he'll need that "life-changing" event that will stunt his growth. It could have happened at the end when he had a shot at the kid running out the back door. He chose not to pull the trigger -- why? Maybe it's because he sees too many senseless killings. Maybe it's because he sees his younger brother when he commits these atrocities. Maybe it's because he doesn't want to do it.datura wrote:Marlo is strong, focused and ruthless.
