I think michael in a way was forced into the situation he's in - the home situation, looking after bug , that the corners are his way to give his brother a chance. You can see his heart is not really in it - firstly seeing the way the corner boys treated dookie, then the refusal to shoot the fleeing child, then going to the fairground instead of looking after his corner..

chris does show some compassion, i.e. the way he didn't let butchie suffer too much. Also interesting is in the 2nd ep when michael was saying it was stupid to kill someone over an insult, he looked in the mirror - whether it was a 'yeah i know' look to chris, or he was looking at something else wasn't clear. Maybe something is brewing there. Perhaps he sees some similarities between himself and michael - the way he dealt with michael's dad almost seemed llike some catharsis for himself..

I remember an episode in season 4 where Chris, Snoop and michael were in the car and Snoop asked Michael why he lives with his brother and why she and Chris took out Michael's father. Michael was abrupt with Snoop and Chris intervened and gave him that look in the rear view mirror.

This is the brilliance of the show - there are so many things that are unsaid, yet you know what's being said.

exactly, it doesn't treat you like you're stupid, it lets you read into motivations yourself rather than spoon feeding you, and is thus more powerful and rewarding.

I dunno. I think it may go a little deeper than that, and there may be conflict between those two this season. You can see a hint of this on the first episode, when Marlo was trying to start drama at the co-op by asking Slim whether his aspirations were to run his own area, or just continue playing second-in-command to Prop Joe. After Slim says "I'm fine where I am", you see Cheese flash him a very annoyed look.

My theory is that Cheese was annoyed b/c he wants to move up and be second to Prop Joe. You can even imagine that he probably feels a bit insulted Slim is #2 instead of him right now, since not only are him and Prop Joe family (Cheese is his nephew), but Slim is a damn ex-Barksdale. That's got to be a bit of a slap in the face.

Marlo probably already sees that tension, and will manipulate it to his benefit. That's one of his greatest strengths right there.

Haha ! What episode is this from ? :D

anyway, the only thing that meks me sad about The Wire is that IT'S COMING TO AN END...THIS IS THE LAST SEASON..
and they only give us 10 episodes (if im right) previous seasons have been atleast 12-13 episodes long.

this show cant be praised enough, theres some much layers and nuances in it.
its so much more than just a cop-show.

waiting for that 4th episode so i can get my fix.
omar is gonna go on a rampage after what chris and snoop did to butch.
and McNulty has topped even himself...
