tempa have been mastering at heathmans for ages though innit, was skreamizm 4 not done there as well?

heathmans cuts do sound loud definitely... but I thought the headhunter double pack especially sounded.. too loud. the bass on drop the waste sounds quite distorted I swear. not 100% but I think the HH pack was done at heathmans too

yunx's heathmans plates definitely have a different sound to the transition plates as well, you can really tell

distorted?? nahh must be your speakers the press is clean. skreamism aint heathmans, i havent even checked the etching but you can tell. i think headhunter's ep was tempa's first heathmans press.

i know what you mean by too loud but its not that, its more that theres so much sharpness and depth in the track, it constantly stands out of the mix when mixed with a more inferior mastered track which sounds relatively flat. ideally, i'd just have everything cut at heathmans but at 50 quid a pop... not yet

nah it's not the speakers.. I just don't like the sound. I've played my copy on a few speakers cos I love the tune. It's definitely a loudness thing as well - I have to turn it down considerably when I'm playing it with other stuff, even other heathmans cuts.

I prefer the sound of transition plates as well definitely, but that's just a preference thing :)

I noticed exactly the same thing. Sounds overwhelmingly
loud in the mix unless it's dropped right down. Definitely not distorted though.

The press on the Benga LPs is absolutely top draw.

I really like the quality of the headhunter release, I bought it on vinyl and mp3 and they both sound nice on my monitors.

But saying that they are definately louder most other releases.

Vinyl wise it would make a lot more sence as a single I suppose.

true, doesnt really fit in with the rest of the album. were the vocals recorded for the benga track, cos i swear the lyrics are differnet to the original?

I might be wrong but I think they are the original lyrics. The single had different lyrics due to the originals drug references.

good point! my mixer has really nice, clear, punchy sound but it can be a little harsh occasionally. still though, I'm sure a well mastered track shouldn't sound too loud in that sense on my setup, all the parts I use are of good quality.
