So funny, I was going to start a "Any jaded junglists on this forum?' thread!

I'm agreeing with pretty much everything you guys are saying. No real surprise that I've been drawn to this new sound. For me, dubstep has the odd, distincive beats, mystery and atmosphere that were the key elements that drew me to DnB. Those same elements have been in astonishingly low supply in the past 5-6 yrs. of DnB. (bar a few excellent producers)

Yeah, for me it definately comes down to the beats - this is the defining element of both styles. When I first heard DnB/Jungle, I liked it because to me it didn't sound like "dance music". It just sounded like this mad, hyperactive future contortion of hip hop. Dubstep is the same - for a style which falls under the umbrella of dance music, it's a pretty damn unconventional style of dance music.

Sadly, DnB now sounds exactly like formulaic dance music. Week after week bucket loads of disposable rave fodder is churned out by many of the big (and small) UK labels. In most tracks the importance of the breakbeat has been so diminished that the producers are kidding themself to think that they are producing a form of breakbeat music. The saddest thing of all is how some of DnB's true innovators of the nineties make and play the most generic dance music imaginable.

I sincerely hope that those who are leading dubstep into the future retain their integrity and continue to produce the great music that we all love so much.

The only dnb that really gets me excited is stuff that gets left unsigned that you can hear trawling The Showcase on DOA or boys like Paradox, Fanu, Fracture and Neptune. I went to a night last night where Loxy played a classic mtlhdz set. It brought tears to my eyes, how good it was

I am getting quite excited about the next Noir, not for the fact that I am playing (and I am fucking excited about that, on the systems present!!) but that I get to have Paradox's live PA, then SLT and then chop and change between Equinox, Chris Inperspective and the Hotflush boys! That is how music nights should be!!!

I still listen to dnb occasionally, but mostly what I guess you would call the "liquid" stuff. I also dig alot of what the Bassbin/Inperspective camp does (Breakage, Equinox, Fracture & Neptune, Zero Tolerance, etc). I'm also big into Amit's tunes....can't wait for that album. But that was the tip I was on before I stopped buying dnb completely. I don't hate it...I still think there's alot of innovation out there, but it just seems to be weighed down by too many throwaway tunes that seem to saturate the dancefloors these days that have lost any and all sense of nuance. Like KAPS mentioned earlier, there is a severe underappreciation of a sense space in tunes. It's kinda like painting...where what you choose to not include is just as important as what you do.

There are very few DnB tunes that really grab me these days.
Tim Exile, definitely some good stuff...but aside from that, you all hit it on the head with the sound just becoming completely stale.

DnB has been a huge part of my life for the last 10-12 years.
I currently hold the longest running DnB weekly in Texas at 4 1/2 years strong!
But it is increasingly more difficult to get excited about the music that is being played there...and at my own night.
I just don't feel it much anymore.

So what I have been doing the last year or so is playing the dubstep/grime during my weekly set and trying to turn these kids onto something new and educate them instead of spending my time being annoyed by the DNB that's being played.

My story's so similar to everyone else's so I'll keep it brief. Seriously loved and DJ'd dnb for many years, as well as running a night for 5 years, but was getting very disillusioned. Then thanks to Bubonic (i live with him) and Pinch and all the context crew got more and more into dubstep, then the switch came when I went to Subloaded 2 and heard it on the Dissident rig... I've bought like 3 dnb tunes since!

but I still have a major love for *some* DnB- the same deep, edity style that everyone else here has already mentioned- and Im helping a label pushing that sound get running again. Come 06 the beats are gonna drop again...

I think there's a good chance that the two scenes (that kinda DnB and dubstep) will develop ties over the next year- similar to what Noir are doing night-wise, and hopefully that will expand more (as its perfect for me- my 2 styles in one place. Add a third room playin dub, dancehall, reggae and *good* hip hop and I'm in heaven! lol) as well as links being forged in other areas.

I'm just happy to have found an innovative and forward thinking form of music with a solid AND rapidly expanding base of right-minded producers, not too mention all the people pushing the sound out to the people, and am fucking looking forward to whats to come.

I "converted" from dnb early in 2004, and have only bought a handful of drum n bass tunes this year. But I haven't written it off at all. I still really dig some of the tech stuff from D-Bridge, Break, Noisia, and others. Don't have much time for the breaky stuff that a lot of people seem to think is the only good thing left, cos it sounds to me like it's barely moved on from 94 jungle, although I admit it is quite fun on the dancefloor...

yes, why just now i offended the people working in the record store with my"d&B sux now" attitude... sigh... well., it does! the creative expansive energy is now inna dubstep! let's hope that this doesn't go a similar direction and jungle did (ie jock type dudes and sounds dominating...alienating the girls, etc !!!)!

I am trying to convert them each and every week. Quite a few are really into it. But there are still quite a few that can think in a lower BPM.

DnB in Texas has had it's ups and downs. It really took a long time for DnB to really hit like it did on the east and west coasts years earlier.
It was HUGE for a while but has tapered off a bit.

i still listen to dnb but i prefer wise things like drumfunkers (seba+manos, paradox, fanu...), atmofusion (asc, mav, jasonOS...). with their help i still into drums and bass, no matter that 12 years has past. also i listen to several other styles but my most faves are defo the minimal dub/click funk/micro stuffs (besides dubstep). deep, dubbed out, breakable and innovative are keywords in my musical life.

Like, how many punters, and how regular were the events? Why do you think it tapered off?

I'm interested because after a long time in the wilderness, DnB is enjoying a rapid growth in my city. But I'm weary of it falling flat on its ass eventuallly - punters get boerd easily.

Ayn tips on keepin' it fresh? The local bwoyz always have new ideas for their nights, so that always draws in a broader crowd than just the die-hard junglists.
