Yes, its actually garage. Certain people just want to put it in a specific corner...Its all about evolving i guess...In the end its all garage. Just go back in the days and u remember....Joe Muggs wrote:Used to be called speed garage, then bassline, now 'Niche', after a club in Sheffield (I'm sure someone will correct me on one or more details hee, but as far as I'm concerned it's all garage reallyetidorhpa wrote:'Niche' ?!
Is that some sort of pigeon hole? Niche? Isn't that what a genre of music is? 'a niche'?
What kind of music do you mean by 'Niche'? Sorry, enlighten me...
And isn't that T2 thing in the top 40 right now?)
T2 was top 10 at one point I think!
Wobble Wobble...
... dubstep is just garage as well, but its ok for 'certain people' to put it in a corner (and call it something new) why? When XLR8R run a cover about Niche/bassline willit be ok to call it that then perhaps?
& there are really good reasons not to call any music garage in the UK at the moment, and for the forseeable future, same reasons London peoples are using codewords like 'funky'
'Heartbroken' got to #2 in the UK charts, and the vid was gettin played on sat morn TV in Australia ... of all places.
It seems Nth American audiences, without the 'baggage' - are alot more open to bassline than certain UK crew... bit of a shame really, but yo, when you all get old and the grandkids ask what you did in yr prime you can state, with no small amount of pride, that you slept on the biggest thing in music in 07/08. I'm sure there will be a forum for you as well, in like 2010 / 2011.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.
All about the Nichestep in 2008.
Seriousy tho. Rogue State is currently lost in India conducting 'research'.
When he returns we have some big tings to show you including a gnarly video for R8-003 'Judgement Come' ft. Dan Man

The problem is that 99% of the new bassline stuff is absolutely awful. Heartbroken sounds like a very, very poor garage tune from 2000. RIP Groove on the other hand is a class tune.

on it, standardly!Slothrop wrote:I heard Geiom drop T2 - Heartbroken in a set the other day and it worked a treat. Are any other dubstep DJ's using the odd Niche / Bassline tune in their sets? I can picture it working really well especially with the more techy / housey / deep end of things, and it might keep the "where's the swing? / where's the sexiness?" people happy for a bit... but I don't get out enough to know if anyone else is on it.
I AM NOT OK.

producers I'm checking are T2, JTJ, DJ Q, Paleface, Wittyboy, Murkz and plenty of others
The whole genre went through a real OTT cartoony patch but in my opinion the new shit that's about right now is totally killing it. They've really settled into a deep groove. Everyone's entitled to dissagree. Sometimes I feel like niche is the ultimate headache music. But most days its all I wanna bang
All I'm gonna say to you is go on youtube and look up those names and look up As It Is TV. Judging niche based on Heartbroken is like judging dubstep based on hearing Night somewhere out of context. I wouldn't blame you for thinking all of dubstep sounded like "a pigeon being poked with a nail" to paraphrase Prancehall.

Paleface... Narrows era 4beat producer no?Alex bk-bk wrote:producers I'm checking are T2, JTJ, DJ Q, Paleface, Wittyboy, Murkz ... most days its all I wanna bang
I like bassline but I much prefer old 4x4 UKG: http://www.grievousangel.net/GA-mp3s/4x4heaven.mp3.
MIXES: http://blog.grievousangel.net/mixes | New mix: Tribute to LHF / Amen Ra: http://www.grievousangel.net/GAMixes/Tr ... _Angel.mp3
I think some of it's ok, remember the cartoony stuff from checking out Juno a couple of years back and wrote it off, but now heard a few and been thinking it's upped the fun quota that's been lacking in dubstep for a while, so probably should check some more.Alex bk-bk wrote:producers I'm checking are T2, JTJ, DJ Q, Paleface, Wittyboy, Murkz and plenty of others

Remember you chatting about fidget house ages back as well, you adding that to your sets now too? Been liking quite a few bits that I've been hearing, but don't know if it's really bass heavy enough for some folks and probably a fair bit too slow to mix with bassline.
Hmm....

try here http://kovyrecords.co.uk/blog/ and here http://smugpolice.blogspot.com/ for mixesowengriffiths wrote:That links not working for me I'm afraid.
It's a mission to find some bassline mixes on the net, and I'm getting bored of the (excellent) Niche Vol1, please try to get your mix onboard.
plus that dj venom/max carnage mix is heavy (
http://ia360633.us.archive.org/3/ite...mumCarnage.mp3), as is mostly anything current from trouble and bass...
hope that helps

trouble and bass is killing it man... their sound is next
yea paleface used to make the older stuff too but now has moved onto niche with his label NorhternLine. Love his old stuff AND his new stuff
Battle Gong - if you dont want to come across like a dickhead then think about wat yr typing and how it reads. But nah yr right tho. If it wernet for the old heads still on here I woulda given up on posting here long time ago.
Rachel thanx for linking the DJ Venom mix. Dunno why I forgot to do that, its on my podcast after all
Shonks yeaaaaaah man playin a little bit of the fidgety stuff, thouh have to be selective with that stuff. Yr spot on, some of it claims to be bassheavy music but totally flops in that department. Some of it is shower though and mixes with 140 stuff real good. I've found 135 a good compromise bpm to work at on that crossover...
