according to the dictionary a documentary is a presentation of the subject matter in a factual and informative matter. theres no past tense involved

well it's balls, frankly. the only people throwing around terms like 'pioneers' are journalists or people writing overly wordy reviews on online record stores.

I'm make tunes for a scene so underground it's just me and my cat. But the other day I left the window open and the postman heard 5 seconds of one of my tunes. That's it man, game over, it's gone commercial and died - WHY MUST EVERYTHING I LOVE DIE LIKE THIS?!

Why can't we all just get along. Its music, let it be - whether it lasts 5 minutes or 5 decades just enjoy it for what it is.

Exactly.

It's a rare day that we split comments from threads but in this case and due to the historical importance of ANY of these kind of video projects, it's necessary.

Some of the more aggressive parts of this thread have been edited out because they've strayed far away from the topic. Starting threats in the thread is totally uncalled for, and might i add against our forum Trolling rules. This video's not even out yet, so how about everyone just relax and see what it's all about, before going off on one. Be thankful that people even decide to spend time documenting this music.

just out of interest, if you pay a UK licence fee, the whole of BBC Radio1's output costs you 0.6p a year..
if you're listening outside the UK online, it's free always..

Well that might have been me too - I come from another forum where personal attacks, character assasinations, verbal abuse and total lies are not only common but actively encouraged so I apologise if I have annoyed anyone - even though I must admit that was my intent.

In truth I know little about Dubstep - apart from the fact that it smacks of the same taste as mid 90s drum and bass when it all got 'very serious' and coffee table. Suddenly there were moody shots of Fabio on the cover of Dazed And Confused, Goldie was being heralded as some kind of musical prodigy

..but all that Inner City Life stuff that he got championed for was bollocks in my opinion. A total over the top joke that was purchased as coffee table music.)

It was at the same time that the mighty Radio One started championing the dnb sound - Fabio and Grooverider got their own show and well, the music got very boring and the scene actually got smaller rather than bigger.

Also - there seems to be a remarkable amount of sycophancy on this thread aimed in the direction of MAH but that perhaps is normal. If there had been internet forums back in the day and Tony Sunrise or Debbie Spiral Tribe was posting on a forum I'd probably have been slightly in awe of him or her too. So I guess at least a DJ is bothering to listen to the people rather than playing songs in between talking about themselves - like the rest of the radio one crew.

Still, I'm outta here. I'm not really interested in dubstep at all!

I did listen to a Burial mix on MAH show one time. It was okay - but I couldnt differentiate the sound between any other chill out atmosphere vibe music of the last 10 years.

I dont really know what I'm talking about - but I do know that by the time radio one came round to the dance music phenomenon and actually gave it proper air time - and rebranded the whole station - it was well over.

Some of what Bottrop said was exaggerated, in particular, the prediction of the end of true dubstep, because there will always be great producers/djs. However, his description of the rise of a music scene in terms of media coverage, and the consequences this can have, doesn't sound too far off the truth, albeit it's quite a cynical truth, so I wouldn't shout him down too much.

What I would say though, is that Mary Anne is 100% not jumping on any bandwagon, as one of his paragraphs kinda implied. I used to listen to the Breezeblock years ago, way before dubstep was getting played on it that's for sure. Mary Ann has always pushed dark future-sounding electronic tunes, and thats what dubstep sounds like in most parts, so she was just pushing the music that was being produced at the time that fitted with the music that she always pushed.

Thank fuck she wasn't afraid to push new music either because techno production, which was played loads on the show and was the reason I listened really, was starting to die on its arse a little, and I would probably never have heard dubstep otherwise!!!

Mary Ann - Will be great to catch you in the Sub Club Glasgow at the end of the month, will be the first time I will have had a chance to finally hear you play out after years of listening. The Sub has an incredible soundsystem so make sure and bring some shit to smash it.
