if the holes in a crumpet were like the holes in a golf course there would be no crumpet left

Teacakes are very different to bagels. They're similar to a bun, but slightly sweet, with dried fruit in them and usually have a light yet sweet & sticky glaze on them.

the glaze is good cos when you toast them it melts and acts as a form of superglue between your fingers and the teacake

In Luke's world it is good when your hand is super glued to food. I have nothing further to add.

i finds it very hard to find the right level of toastedness for crumpets though, all too easy to burn them, but a soggy crumpet tastes like shit as well
Soon as they make a tapping noise when you tap them with a finger-nail or kitchen utensil (not blender, that is stoopid) but aren't blackened charcoal. Melted cheese rocks on crumpets

yeah cheese on crumpets is lush. was suspicious when i was told about it but it won me over with it's melted goodness. sometimes need a quick blast in the microwave to get proper meltage. not too much mind or you get soggy crumpet and noone likes that do they?
