Dubstep and Herb

Post by subliminal » Wed May 10, 2006 2:21 am

This topic must have been touched on but i searched and couldnt find a definitive thread. could be wrong? anyways, it seems like its about 50/50 smokers/non-smokers from what ive gathered on reading random threads for over a year or so. just curious what rough percentage of dubstep heads smoke. cheers to those that do and those that dont.

yeah feel free to say your position on the matter as well

Yeah, and I think smoking it helped get me into bass heavy music in the first place. I don't need weed to enjoy dnb/dubstep/reggae and I didn't smoke it before I got into hip-hop but it definitely helps me ''tap in'' to it sometimes.

Having said that it ruins my life in little ways lol

it doesn't bother me when people smoke, and i'm for legalization, but i don't feel it's a necessity.

if i got to a point where i feel i wouldn't be penalized for smoking it i probably would, but right now i'd be risking my job. and how else would i spend $50 a week on records? lol

The Herb is sacred.

I live in one of the most pot friendly cities in the world , besides Amsterdam, and to me, Herb is one of the most important things in life.

I recently got into a little spat on another thread when people were ,IMO,
spreading "Reefer madness" type of info about the herb.

I believe its every smokers responsibilty to learn as much TRUTH, about ganja as they possibly can, so one day, sensible drug policy can prevail.

...and the herb can be set free!!!!!

Only smoke occcassionally nowadays, as I did notice it having a negative effect (paranoia, delusional thinking, etc), so calmed it down. Noticed that I'd treat it in a manner that I wouldn't do if it were alcohol, smoke before breakfast and throughout the day till last thing at night.

At it's peak I was maybe smoking a half ounce a week (although I know folks smoking a quarter a day, and it's having worrying effects), and it did cause misunderstandings and fallings-out with mates, so I've consequently reined it in to maybe an eighth over two months, with weeks not smoking. Cutting down has greatly increased my confidence in socialising (always been quite a sociable person, but found it difficult to follow anything when stoned).

Some people deal with herb well as if it's nothing more than drinking tea, and fair play to them if they enjoy it, but personally it doesn't chill me out anymore and just seems to make me anxious. I did notice though that my music does sound quite trippy when stoned, although I didn't actually make it under the influence of weed, so the legacy effects still seem to be programmed in my brain - which saves me a few quid a week.
Hmm....

yeah I do enjoy blazing but I do feel it's important to keep a critical attitude towards it, a lot of people get too in love with the herb and think it's just pure positivity in a smokable form.

For example I don't think it's great for your production, either for the sharpness of your ideas or just for getting stuff finished. The only time it helps is when I've produced for hours sober, feel exhausted, blaze and then get totally wrapped up in it again, a sort of second wind. But creating from scratch when I'm high it's VERY rare that anything worthwhile comes out. Of course there are exceptions.

Since this is a forum with dub in the title it's also worth mentioning that Lee Scratch Perry, wizard and spiritual father to many of us dubbists also felt the need to keep a certain distance from the herb, taking breaks of several months at a time because he was worried it was affecting his creativity.

Blazing is fun and can get you into certain states where you feel creative and charged but it's not, as some people, have said 'the best creative stimulant' etc. That poisition is clearly held by the bubbling mud of life COFFEE! I swear I get so jacked up and think I can take over the world, every single morning. And it's cheap and legal!

Used to smoke really heavily for about 7 years, but nowadays only maybe once a week or so. I definitely enjoy it more now and my memory's gotten a lot better although some permanent damage has definitely been done in the past..

herbs

Post by roko » Wed May 10, 2006 10:41 am

word sire

its all about moderation / control imho...

i can say i smoke every night (oh well, not smoke, but use my lovely vapouriser)... but then again a £20 bag lasts me for 7 weeks or so... so as you can judge from that, it's not the real messy high i enjoy, but the nice little liftedness...

got lotsa mates who are big bongheads/smoke shotties etc... thats some pretty harsh stuff i think..

i dont think theres anything wrong smoking once a day after work, but yeah it depends how well are YOU in control of your usage of the drug, rather the opposite...

but yeah i loves the herb regardless.. sometimes feels like it would be nicer to smoke it more rarely tho and enjoy the times when high more...

but it is the best thing after u get home after a hard day at work, a lil vapo hit, some music, food, chill... i likes!

It obviously increases your appreciation of music and makes the listening experience more intense.

But for me the resulting lack of concentration and lethargy are too much of a compromise so I rarely touch the herbage.
