You might be able to find an old copy of it on ebay or something.
Midi playback is crackly? Is it midi glitching or audio glitching?

FFS, You have been answered twice.
Yes, you can get an old version (Try ebay) from before teh evil Apple bought it and shut down the PC dev.
Yes, you can run hackintosh and make yourself a pretend Mac, but then you'd have a load more shit to have to deal with.
Your problems probably aren't caused by Cubase. It sounds like a bunch of random shit, which is part of the problem with PCs. Too much random shit to have to troubleshoot, when you could be making music instead.

i got logic 8 running on my toshiba laptop via osx86 leopard.
logic seemed stable so i don't know why someone did it off as being dodgy.
couldn't make heads or tails of the program however. not my sequencer of choice. 5.5.1 for the pc is still very ok, if only for the native effects and instruments.

if there were, this ain't the place to ask.
But yea, the last version of Logic released for PC was 5.5.1 and it's still pretty good. Tis what I used to use.

I stiill use 5.5 on pc, does most of what I want it to. Only really use it still cause I'm used to it though, think Cubase is probably a way better option but I don't fancy spending more time learning a new sequencer to be honest.
Hmm....

I switched from Logic 5.5 to Cubase SX3 about a year ago. Mostly because Logic was quite unstable for me, nothing worse than having it just close without warning and your work getting mashed. For those of you still on Logic 5.5 I say give Cubase a go. It's really not that difficult to pickup, i could probably show it to someon in 30 minutes.
