I have the Tapco S5's and haven't been able to fault them so far, £184.95 inc VAT from Dolphin Music.
Reach for the lasers, save as fuck.

I didn't like either of those suggested monitors so I bought:
Prodipe Pro 5's £180
(then 1 week later Tapco SW10 - you'll need a sub)

Monitors are a completely personal decision, you really must audition them and compaire, its worth it mate.

Take a CD to a store and take your timing listening to each one.
Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

save up a little more and get some budget 8" monitors like tapco or samson resolv, you'll need to hear the action on the low end

Decent £100-175 Studio monitors?
...don't exist as far as i know :(

blizzard save your money and spend at least £400 i'd say.

i paid £300 for tapco s8s when they came out, they are great for the price but i've learnt that they aren't that great monitors.

i wish i'd saved up and bought some genelecs, dynaudio, mackie, atc or something properly fucking GOOD that i will never sell

decent, transparent, professional quality budget monitors don't exist as far as i know.

a £180 set of monitors will probably improve your mixdowns, but when you compare them to your mate's genelecs you will wish you'd waited and saved up more dollar.

imo of course

Sure you can get decent monitors for £175 but if you've got to buy them used. As said above go to shops and listen to different models before.

Can't really buy what £10 Bag says. You don't need big expensive monitors if that's your 1st pair and you won't need for a while.
Just get what you need.
Besides, if memory serves, Blizz' ain't old enough to work so getting an extra £200 legally would take a while...

I own the Behringer's Truths. Lot of shit things have been said about them but if you know how to place them in your room & use the settings panel on the back, and also have XLR jacks they're more than decent to me.
And they perfectly fit your budget.

something like the alesis actives will do you just fine. my mate has alesis m1 actives worth about 200 quid, i have pmc tb2s + a bryston amp worth nearly 2500 all in. I have had one or two tunes released, he's had loads.

its how well you know your monitors, and how their sound translates to bigger rigs, which is really important, not the price tag. :)
is it?

NO.

dont go cheap on monitors. Buy once, and buy right!!!

the tapcos are garb imo. I had a pair of S8s. I took them back after a week and bought the Mackie's. I had the S8s beside RP5s and all the weak points become obvious, even against a budget monitor like the little KRKs.

I really like the samson rubicon series. They're probably the best bang for your buck. They only come in a 5 and 6. Grab the 6s and a sub when you realize that you can't hear any sub and then treat your room a bit. It'll be an great setup.

www.soundonsound.com for reviews!!! great site.

Seriously.
Dont buy anything on someones advice, fuck what they think, just go and test them out with your own music and tunes you know and love.
I spend 6 hours testing out monitors - luckily I chose a very quiet day and had the room to myself pretty much.

Haha... RubADub is a good wee shop, but seems to be 10% more expensive than everywhere else.

On the plus side, they stock some dubstep, which is nice.

On another note, keep the 20 quid argos speakers! If your mixdown sounds good through your monitors, and thru the shittest speakers money can buy, then you're onto a winner.
