Indeed, why the hell not?

Sure there was a post about this the other week, where looking at the origins of dance music (say post acid house), that you could hear hip hop, disco, house, electro, rare groove, Happy Mondays, etc in the same evening - really don't see a problem with that at all

Saw Jerry Dammers from the Specials dj a few years back, he played early ska, bit of dub, bit of dancehall (first time I heard a Bug tune out), some jungle and all kinds of stuff, wasn't beatmatching as such, but did keep the crowd dancing all night. Mixing's a bit over-rated sometimes I think, can actually compromise the possibilities of an evening to a degree.
Hmm....

I agree totally. I've seen DJ let whole tunes play from begging to end because they are wicked tunes form start to finish. This mixing lark is over egged sometimes. N-Type is the extreme of this. It's about vibe and crowd input.

Think most of my feelings on this come from particular crews that I've played with who are way too fucked to mix, but really on that party vibe and just pulling out records that carry that on

There was an interesting article with the Beastie 'Boys in the now defunct Select magazine from years back, think it was something about successful dating tips and starting interesting conversation - they put forward the idea of discussing the similarities between say Sonic Youth, John Coltrane and Public Enemy. Thinking about it, that's a way healthier philosophy to have about music and what's permissable.
Hmm....

I will mix in whatever, usually some techno, electro, breaks, house, etc. But I usually don't stray to far away from dubstep. And I also like to play across the board with in the boundaries of dubstep. I'm def not into hearing 20 similar sounding tunes right in a row. Any genre of music gets boring after a while.

Wouldn't necessarily go that far. This sorta thing goes down well on a Sunday sesh though, will look into seeing if there's a place up for doing it down here in the summer (there's quite a few of this sorta thing going on anyway, but we'll see). Not a moneyspinner, but always fun in a "let's get stinkin drunk and stick tunes on" way :D

??? mixing or beatmatching ?
mixing is and should be so much more than beatmatching!

I think its weird that there is so little experimentation on the styles of mixing in dubstep. The tunes try to battle each other to be more original and pushing fwd, but the mixing sound the same as always . . .
140 bpm straight . . . I say FUCK THAT! lets have some fun!

Always thought they were interchangeable to be honest. Wouldn't consider putting one tune on after another as mixing, and when I've done this people have asked "why don't you mix it?.
Hmm....
