Reason's Subtractor Synthesizer is a big look. Easy, and you can make sounds you want with ease.
Before you sign on and ask the most easy questions and get dissed for them, go on
http://www.youtube.com and search for subtractor or ts404 tutorials. Easy thing to do.

And then sort out your English teacher. He seems to have only taught you text language.

a sawtooth wave + overdrive / distortion = growl
drop the filter cutoff less than 50% and turn the res down to
also fast or a sharp attack and just play with all the other parameters until you find the growl you seek
It does not really matter what synth you use, it is more useful to understand universal principals of synthesis. Using an analog hardware synth was / is the best teacher if you can get your hands on one.
Just go into your local gear store and pretend you want to buy one, then ask for headphones so you don't bother anyone. They will most likely let you at it for hours on end.
