First Mobb Deep album's really heavy on the bass and nice echoey production (shook 1z propa classic), Main Source, some Public Enemy stuff on Fear of a Black Planet, Smif'n'Wessun, loads of RZA's stuff has that sort of rawness and heavy bass. Early Pete Rock and CL Smooth. Think "Smash Sumthin" by Redman's quite reggae-like in the bassline (and a fine beat to boot - party ammo)ozols man wrote:haha seen... i always thought lord finesses mid 90's production was dubbed out, esp on albums like the awakening... definetly alot of inspiration to be found in that gritty sound..8bitwonder wrote:yeah most of my tracks are heavilly influenced on a hip hop cut and paste vibe
Just picked up a hip hop remix of Bam Bam the other day (if sticking another beat over the original is strictly a remix) reminded me of that sort of early-90's massive drum production values - pick up a copy if you get the chance
Hmm....

theres a track that gets faster and faster i forget the name tho and his rappin is spot on in that track
quannum are amazing imo
lyrical whirlwinds-oh my gosh!

talkin bout latyrx u gotta peep 'lady dont tek no' prolly one of the best party jams in the histry of music. crazy how people react to that tune...
their debut was 'juvenile hell' but it was mediocre anyways, prolly cause they where really young, but yeah between 'the infamous' , 'hell on earth' and 'murda muzik' you could argue that was one of the best 3 album stretches in hip hop.everything since has been sell out. havoc is a fucking phenomenal producer though.First Mobb Deep album's really heavy on the bass and nice echoey production (shook 1z propa classic),

the solesides bumps thing with the blue cover was really good
marsyas you know bro!

Don't know the later albums, but the infamous has some of my favourite production of that time, think loads of those sounds'd work well in dubstep, nice drones slammin beats, heavy bass. Quite inspirin in a way listening to it now. Think it's got a good mix of dark and light and some pathos in the lyrics which wasn't that common a currency at the time (and admittedly loads of gun-shit which sadly was).Marsyas wrote:talkin bout latyrx u gotta peep 'lady dont tek no' prolly one of the best party jams in the histry of music. crazy how people react to that tune...
