Chemical Records - 5 Questions With DZ

Post by tom @ chemical » Fri Feb 15, 2008 4:34 pm

We did a little interview with DZ for our email newsletter (go here to sign-up to the mailing list). He's got some interesting things to say.

DZ AKA Sean Harten is Canada's premier Dubstep producer. Hailed as 08's one to watch on Dubstepforum and creator of the contemporary classics:
DZ - Slums Dub (Scuba Records)
DZ - Just Rolling (Black Acre)

1. You are known as one of Dubstep's most prolific producers, what's your secret to continued freshness?
I don't know, my passion for creation? I could seriously build beats all day, every day, which isn't far off from what I'm doing these days...
2. You’re being marooned on a desert island - what three records would you take?
- DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - He's The DJ, I'm the
Rapper
- Chemical Bros - Exit Planet Dust
- Benga - Diaries of an Afro Warrior
3. Who are Canada's top 5 musical exports?
Paul Anka, The Guess Who, Kardinal Offishal, The Tragically Hip & I guess Arcade Fire. I'm not into the new wave scene at all but I read that Arcade Fire were massive, so rock on!
4. What musical mountains will you hope to conquer in 08?
On the music front I hope to get my own label up and going and get the US & UK tour on the go. Spread the sound as far as possible and meet all the people making it happen proper. I also must hit a DMZ, but patience is one of my better qualities!
5. If you could have made any song what is it?
Reso - Climbing The Walls.

I was gunna say ANNE MURRAY but I don't fancy her records - Neil Young, well, I just forgot. If it were up to record sales I could say that snooty bitch Alanis in her 2 million condo downtown, or I could have said Prophaghandi or SNFU, 2 of the greatest punk bands ever, but truth be told we have alot of great musicians/artists from here.

If we weren't talking about music, prove me wrong we don't have THE BEST :E:
