Try paying attention to your heart beating, rhythm is a part of life :D
Same thing here as well. About the only time I DON'T listen to music is when I'm catching a bit of television ( even then, you're getting bits and pieces of music during the shows and the commercials )

... sometimes it's good to just take a break and exist in silence, though it is a pretty hard thing to do.

£10 Bag wrote:nah i can't just listen to one genre, i listen to lots of reggae, dub, hip hop, dubstep, various old music, jungle, breaks and weird tunes that my friends and i make.

if you listen to one genre too much you become musically-narrow-minded. people might make out that dubstep is the saviour of all music etc etc, but it is not so great that all the other genres must become obsolete.
perfectly put

I adore dubstep, and a few years back when i first got into the sound i became obsessed and it seemed only dubstep would satisfy my musical ear.
Then i found myself not going off it, but i became a little bored of it, as i had rinsed it sooo much, i was every single friday at FWD, downloading every mix i could get my hands on, - so i was hearing the same tunes over and over, all the fresh dubs - were old, as i was hearing them week in week out.

So i distanced myself a bit, and now ive got a healthy balance between all music. I listen to all sorts of stuff, it keeps everything so fresh and more special ... resently ive been listening to alot of random stuff, old stuff like The Police, which i never thought i would like or be bothered about, the drummer is so sic, his beats are next level, and Groove Armadas first album Vertigo - is just a masterpiece. When i was younger i would of said 'fak off, that wont intrest me, move me, i only like drum and bass innit' lol -- oh dear hehe - its funny when your younger it seems you have an initial love affair with one genre in particular and are only interested/bothered about that - then as you get older you open your mind so much more.

It great to listen to as much music as you can, even when you aint keen on things you dont like, why dont you like it etc - get to know your musical self.
love the underground stuff, jungle, garage, techno etc ----- gotta listen to other styles to challenge yourself musically and get inspired in different ways, with different sounds.

i don't know if you can really apply that to a largely instrumental genre.
i'd argue that you can. there are levels at which you can listen to something. ranging from simply hearing it, to listening to it intently and deeply.

and now with the prominence of massive tunes in the rave, the wobblers if you will, the climate of being able to just close your eyes and listen to the music has been attacked.

the success of such big tunes seems somewhat superficial when there are really fantastic pieces of dubstep which get overlooked. hence my statement.

i'm not saying people can't listen intently but just that it seems to be happening less frequently than before.

and don't get me wrong, i like to brock out as much as the next man. but given the way that some of the music has switched up and the consequence of this in the club, i do think that it's getting harder for people to listen properly.

but then again everyone can chose what to do with their own ears.
i've been finding it increasingly difficult to listen to music at raves. i used to prefer listening to instrumental music at a rave simply because there were certain frequencies that were completely unattainable from my home system..now tho, you feel like a proper social outcast if you're not all gun fingers a go go brokin out wide at a rave..it's also nice when your your listening intently to a set and a tune drops and u suddenly feel this uncontrolable urge to brock out - dems the best :D

I for one know I would take brocking out over listening at a rave any day. If you want to listen to music listen to it in your room. Dubstep nights can be pretty shit if they arent dropping bangers, or at least thats the case up here in Newcastle. Anything that gets the crowd going with a good atmosphere is preferable to some kinda melodic "deep" tune.

nah nowt wrong with a good listen... system's better for it than your home set up, as tappy said. people are ALWAYS askin me if i'm alright at raves cos i'm just standing there barely moving. YES... I'M LISTER-NING, PLS SHHH. it's dubstep, meditate in your own little personal space if you feel to.

I listen to too much Dubstep. I also listen to a lot of Drum and Bass, which is basically my third genre. When it comes to music I listen to a lot.

i dont think this is a fair representation of dubstep nights in newcastle and if it was i'd be gutted.

also the 'kinda melodic deep tunes' are often the ones that create the best atmosphere at nights
