Post by aaron_bliss » Fri May 12, 2006 5:52 pm

anyone use an MPC?

I was wondering if any of you have figured how to recreate a good king tubby delay echo on the newer mpcs.

thanks!

8bit ur a badman, I hope u use that as well, jus rinse yr drums thru it mate given em that akai thwack . . .

Dunno bout the newer ones aaron, I've got a 2000xl and the fx board is nang . . . delay times r abit short fr proper dub echos tho . . . I got a Boss DM-2 pedal years n years ago, great digi delay, grunges the sound up proper :D

Good looking out fellas,

Yea, I am on MPC #4

I started with the 2k back in '97 then to the 2kxl, then the 1k and now the 2500 - why you may ask? I like to upgrade when ever things make production more efficient.

Delay - yea, the 2k series had crappy delay but to be honest way better than the new boxes - back then I could at least fake it now - forget about it...
I will look into that pedal you suggested. Anyone have more suggestions?

Thanks

yeah 8bit, I was gonna get a 60 Mk2, from a studio in the US, but decided aganist it, figured I spend bare cash keepin it goin, there the ones tho, Roger Linn was the illest . . . .

If I had the $$$ t blow on a delay processor, I'd go that Line6 Echo modeller, that looks the ducks nuts that one. I tend to use my dm-3 as a predelay for reverb these days, takes the top/low end of the sound and you can get the reverb skankin in time wif yr beats.

If you know how Reason 3 is THE dub machine tho.

the line 6 (dl4) is quite a chessy sounding pedal, the looper is ok and some of the delays are nice. i have a boss dsd-3, this gives very clean repeats from 200ms to 800ms/1s.
a tape echo is what you want for tubby style. a roland space echo or something simular.

Trust me, Reason 3 can make some serious dub sounds. I have managed to create a very cool sounding delay sound:
I use the RV-7000 (echo in mono, in 3/4 or 6/4 time, long feed back, low cut at between 500-1000Hz and a gentle hi cut too), the Scream unit (either the "Tube" or the "Tape setting", maybe with a slight mid range boost on the three band graphic EQ), and then another RV-7000 (Spring reverb). Experiment, but you can do serious business like this. Compared to a real spring reverb or a real tape echo I can tell difference (especially the tails of the reverb and the delay is "digital"-sounding), but listen to my tunes "Copenhagen Massive" for an example of Reason 3 dub sounds. www.myspace.com/2000f

well . . . yeah. If you've got the dosh and time / knowhow fr maintenance. Somtimes its better t find new ways t do old things tho . . .

. . . all BOSS pedals are dope, best fx fr the money, better than plug ins

I totally agree with 2000F on the RV7000 tho, that spring model is wikid, but the high end is still waaaay to sparkly . . . the phaser is good value as well.

best thing about reason is its sounds good makin feedback loops, alot of digital gear doesnt, and thats one of the things about "proper" dub is that edge of feedback sound, where everything is almost buzzin off . . .
