Totally.

And for me those are some of the moments that really make me go nuts on the dancefloor, too. I get kind of pissed off by the false dichotomy that some people want music to make them dance and some people want music to make them scratch their chins and say "I say Tarquin, that's a rather innovative use of triplet time" while they stand by the bar (or sit around on forums), and that people who want to hear more variety and innovation in dubstep (or dnb or whatever) must be in the latter camp and are sitting round complaining because they've forgotten how to go out and have fun. Meself, if I'm in a club and all the tunes are samey and predictable then I'll probably get bored and go and sit down, if it's off the wall shit, I'm more likely to be dancing and going crazy.

yeah, thats pretty much what i use to define forward thinking :) also, slothrop, i agree with you - there are musical genres that define themselves as "future music" by the way they may invoke images of the future in the mind of the listener. But the timbres and general texture of that musical style may be pretty unoriginal within the context of the genre itself (read: rehashed shit :))

I can call something innovative when i see or hear it, yet its something that so outside my everyday perception of, and general interaction with, reality, that i wouldn'd come up with the idea myself if i was left to my own devices.

i suppose that's why im always trying to think outside the invisible box that i've made for myself through my own behavioral patterns and perceptions.

maybe i should do some acid?
