Low latency USB soundcard

Post by zion cluster » Wed Feb 27, 2008 9:05 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap(ish) USB soundcard with really low latency. I have a decent soundcard (Yamaha DSP factory) for mixdowns but the drivers are, to be frank, absolute wank.
I need a second card with low latency for playing VSTis and maybe recording the odd distorted guitar or guide vocal while composing. I also want to use it with my laptop, hence USB. The DACs can be bog, I really don't care. If it matters I use XP on my desktop and Vista on my laptop.

Any recommendations?

Thanks

M-Audio Fast Track Pro. I Use This Loads of Inputs and Shit

Or The Terra Tec DMX 6Fire 24/96

Thats pretty nifty, but you have to put it in your computer

hope that helps :)

Thanks for the help. The fast track looks good, with all the IO I need. What kind of latency do you get with it?

Lowest i've seen with ASIO drivers on a USB card is 8ms or so and that was pushing it. This was a few years back though on a saphire thing.

i think its on either the M-audio or the Tera Tec it was like 6ms or something stupid like that.

and i mean they're about £100 so its all good.

That sounds fine. My current card sounds great, but the asio latency is something like 30ms, not much fun to play. Thanks a lot guys.
