Tim Burton's remake of "Planet of the Apes". Perhaps I came in w/ unrealistic expectations b/c I was a fan of the original "Apes" series...but it seemed to me like Burton was pissing all over the films that I loved. It was so bad, that I eventually fell asleep in the theatre during the climax.

That's my gauge for whether I can stand a movie or not....whether it puts me to sleep in the theatre. So far, I've fallen asleep during:

Planet of the Apes
Signs
Tomb Raider 2
Scream 3
and...

I saw this movie twice (once w/ friends, and another time w/ my g/f) and I feel asleep both times. Pure garbage!

This film is bad, but it's still amusing to me. Someone called it "pornography for fascists"...which is a pretty apt description.

So mainstream movies are mostly shite? What a surprise.

This is what is happening in Hollywood right now. Films are opened in thousands of movie theaters across the land (Or across the world, as it's now happening) at once. They expect to recoup their costs that single opening weekend.

After the bad press, bad word of mouth, etc, etc, they're expected to drop off some 70-80% after that initial opening.

This is why the gap between opening in America and the rest of the world has diminished so much in the last few years. We're communicating with each other on a global scale.

They figure that they can churn out the same formulaic tosh again and again while people still watch it all. After that weekend, the film is paid for, there's money back and then the DVD sales and rentals are profit.

I used to think that Hollywood was creatively bankrupt, but I've been filled in and it's just not the case. They want the good stuff, but they just know that people will swallow the same shit time and time again.

Anyway, the worst film ever is Van Helsing or any of the fast/furious bollocks.

let's see.. i walked out of the theater during titanic, state & main, and one other film. i haven't been to the movies in well over a year and i rarely see anything being advertised that's compelling enough for me to waste the effort of walking to the theater that's about 5 blocks away from me.

also i don't get the fascist propaganda bit

300 to me is about the few standing up to the many

the small independent nation rising up against the massive evil empire

its about a small devoted few inspiring their fearful peers to stand up to the machine
